The Village Inn

Place was a good stop over with very clean comfortable rooms and parking at front. However, felt a little uncomfortable with the kids as people were smoking weed at the front of the property and therefore felt it was not suitable to go into the pub for a drink. Disappointing the pub did not serve food and it was a good drive out to anywhere that did. Breakfast was disappointing, almost felt like the offer of some cooked food was reluctant and overall quality of breakfast was low.

Friendly reception on arrival. Was sent a text with a number to meting incase I needed it. Love the tartan carpet. Clean, fresh and well stocked. Extras available if needed for tea, coffee, etc. don’t be put off by the separate shower rooms. They are literally two steps over the hall and robes are provided. Lots of fluffy towels left too. I needed an early start so was left a huge continental breakfast. Remember that the bar is only open Thursday through to Sunday. It is on a busy road but good windows and blackout blinds help. Parking was available outside. Nice green opposite. Great for an overnight stop on my way to Edinburgh.

Iain McEwan 11:52 PM (9 minutes ago) to me We made a reservation via Booking.com for one night, 21 September 2024. We have been charged £80 for a 'no-show' which we consider unfair, given the following circumstances. We began trying to confirm our stay at the Village Inn on 17 September. We had noticed that on Trip Advisor the most recent of 7 reviews of the property was in June 2022. We had also noticed during our booking process that many small hotels in villages in South Scotland were no longer offering accommodation or had ceased trading. We had a flight to catch at Edinburgh Airport on 22 September, therefore we were anxious to make sure we had accommodation for the previous night. Our first phone call to the Village Inn was on 17 September. The hotel's mobile phone was turned off and no-one answered the landline number. We continued to phone, 10 or more times, but could not get a reply, even as late as 21 September. We then tried to find alternative accommodation in the area, but on a busy Saturday night there was nothing available. We could not risk driving 40 miles, finding the Village Inn closed, then having to drive back home again on the night before our flight. We were eventually forced to leave home early on the morning of 22 September and drive directly to the airport. Booking, com have failed to help us, referring us back to the Village Inn for a full refund. We shall post a second, more favourable, review in the event that the Village Inn compensates us. We are disappointed not yet to have had the opportunity to stay at the hotel.
