Unfortunately this hotel was the only one in Lichfield that could accommodate us on the dates we required and although the location was good I found the whole experience of staying here so depressing that we left a day early.
The staff were friendly and the bar and breakfast room were reasonably decorated but our room was like the worst sort of student accommodation.
The furniture was old and very shabby. There was a weird row of overhead lockers above the bed which was very strange. The lighting was appalling with one dim ceiling light and two spots above the bed, both operated from one switch.
The bathroom was badly in need of replacing. Going to the loo required a leap of faith as you had to position yourself with legs to the left as a towel rail was positioned to the right. As you sat down the loo roll got knocked off the holder every time and the loo seat hit you in the back. I resorted to using the facilities on the lower ground floor which were much better and seemed to have been refurbished.
The room had a small double bed and a single which my husband got banished to as we could not possibly have slept in such a tiny bed.
The room was positioned on the main road and it was very noisy. The weather was warm and the bed cover was very heavy but we couldn’t have the window open because of the noise.
The breakfast was okay but the coffee was dismal and the only nod that I could see towards a ‘continental’ breakfast was a packaged long life croissant. Given that lots of people wanted the breakfast which was well priced at £10, I would have hoped for more. The waitress was delightful and worked hard.
I felt that the hotel was overpriced for the state of our accommodation. The parking was not free as advertised but £5 a night.
This standard of hotel may suit some but not me and I’m afraid I can’t recommend it.
I would like to know how it got it’s 3 stars.

The hotel is well located - a 5 minute walk to the town centre. Room 206 is a nice big en suite room with quite plain functional decor.
The bed is a good size but the mattress is soft and it would be great if the bottom sheet was fitted so it didn’t come off.
Bathroom door sticks but that’s an easy fix.
All the staff we encountered were very pleasant and the bar area is quite cosy.
A nice hotel that could do with a bit of updating and finessing.

We stayed for one night with our small dog, for some reason the system hadnt recognised the dog so when we got there the man on reception said we would have to downgrade to a room for dog stays.
We were given a room at the back which was very warm , it had an electric fan on presumably because they knew about it.
Thankfully the window opened.
The room was very dated with several chips to the bath enamel and a human hair.
The bed was ok and the TV worked.
We were awakened at 6am with the bottle bins being emptied right under our window.
The room was not worth the £130 we were charged more like £90
The hotel is well located for Beacon park and Lichfield centre
Pros - Staff really friendly and helpful
Breakfast very good served by a lovely lady
If you have a dog you take breakfast in the bar which is actually better and more private
The staff are obviously keen on dogs and this is a nice touch .
