Premier Inn Newcastle Under Lyme

A few issues that need attention We stayed here on 1–2 October and, while the room was clean and the bed was comfortable, there were a few things that let the stay down. The room itself was looking a little tired. The laminate on the side table was peeling away, part of the window curtain was broken, and the plugs in the bath were showing quite a bit of limescale. The biggest issue was the temperature. The room was extremely warm despite the outside temperature being around 17°C. There was a fan provided which was quite dusty, which helped, but there was no air conditioning in the room. It was surprisingly hot given the time of year. We also had a wait at reception. We pressed the bell twice before someone arrived, and a member of staff who was doing a stock take even came out and pressed it himself before someone eventually appeared. On the positive side, the room was clean and the bed was comfortable, which are the basics you want from a Premier Inn. Overall, though, it felt like the hotel could do with a bit of attention and maintenance. We've stayed in plenty of Premier Inns over the years and it does feel like the standard has slipped a little recently, which is disappointing for a brand we've generally found reliable.

I would just like to say how nice it was to feel like an individual. I was checked I'm by a young lady late at night who spoke to me as a person and not a number, she also helped me during the night when I experienced some discomfort and the same young lady was there at breakfast with a smile and friendly approach - she certainly seemed to have a surplus amount of energy 😊

My review is aimed at Matthew the maintenance worker Seen him a few times and every time he’s amazing from needing a bulb or my tv needs re tuning in the room or when I blocked the sink he’s happy friendly and so professional Then this morning I went to go for my breakfast and he was there greeted me with a smile and asked if I had any allergies sat me on a table and took my breakfast order with absolute perfect customer service skills I asked if he had changed jobs but he said he was just being a team helper while the waitress was dealing with something Then later the morning he saw me having an issue and meltdown in the reception as my car key broke and I couldn’t start my car I asked reception if they had some sellotape to see if I could fix it but no joy and I was crying in my car later that day when yet again Matthew came walking by as I parked by his car he asked me if everything was alright I explained I couldn’t get any help with my breakdown company for my key and again caring and professionally he took my car key apart and fixed the broken battery holder I pressed my start button and my car started I honestly couldn’t thank him enough after offering to pay him he kindly declined and I was on my way hours late for a meeting but my key was fixed and my dignity restored I hope the higher management see this review for Matthew Is there anything this man can’t do he’s a polite kind caring and professional maintenance man a excellent waiter and server and he also clears and cleans tables I spotted him doing and he is always happy to help anyone as I’ve noticed in my stays previously the staff or customers always happy to help and not a bad word said so if the higher management see this review just know Matthew is an amazing assets to your company and what ever you are paying him be it hourly or salary he deserve recognition and a raise or bonus for months I’ve been frequently staying at Newcastle and he’s amazing always happy to say hello and to do everything he’s asked and more a value and credit to an amazing team at Newcastle under Lyme
