The Lion Hotel

It's my third time staying here on our way further south. Good location with a public car park close by. They have a nice beer garden and the restaurant is lovely. Food was excellent and the staff where both friendly and very helpful. Ellie was particular great taking detailed instructions on how a friend wanted their bread and butter pudding prepared! And she delivered.

We have just returned home after an amazing stay at The Lion Hotel, and we honestly can’t recommend it highly enough. From the moment we arrived on Monday afternoon, we were made to feel so welcome. We unfortunately didn’t catch the name of the gentleman on reception, but he was absolutely brilliant. He greeted us warmly, explained everything we needed to know about our room key card and how to access the hotel outside of normal reception hours. He was also there to greet us again the following day, and his friendly, welcoming manner really set the tone for our stay. We also had the pleasure of chatting with Racheal, the General Manager, who was incredibly friendly and helpful. She took the time to tell us about local places to visit and made us feel completely at home. Both she and the gentleman on reception were genuinely interested in making sure we had a wonderful stay. Our evening meal was absolutely beautiful. Please pass on our thanks to the chefs, because the food was outstanding. Everything arrived hot, beautifully presented and was absolutely delicious. A special thank you also goes to Nikki, who looked after us during the evening. She checked on us regularly to make sure everything was perfect and whether we needed anything. Nikki also recommended some fantastic local places to visit, which really added to our trip. Her customer service was excellent. Our room was stunning, with its beautiful original wooden beams and exposed brickwork, giving it so much character. We overlooked the main courtyard, which looked magical in the evening with all the beautiful string lights. When we arrived, our room was immaculately presented. The fresh, crisp white towels had even been folded into lovely towel art on the bed, which was such a thoughtful touch and made us smile. The en-suite bathroom was modern and spotless, with sparkling mirrors, gleaming taps and immaculate tiles. A huge thank you to Cammy, whose hard work certainly didn’t go unnoticed. Not only did he ensure our room was beautifully maintained, regularly checking whether we needed fresh towels, water or toiletries, but he also worked incredibly hard keeping the bar and restaurant areas spotless. Every morning he greeted everyone with a smile, and the public areas and toilets were always immaculate and beautifully fresh. We would also like to give a special mention to Kay, who really is multi-talented. She looked after us at breakfast, worked behind the bar and on reception, and always greeted us with a smile. She provided fantastic customer service throughout our stay and managed to remain completely professional while sharing some lovely light-hearted banter with us, which made us feel so relaxed and welcome. It’s genuinely refreshing to stay somewhere where the staff are upbeat, approachable and clearly enjoy looking after their guests. Overall, every single member of staff made us feel welcome, relaxed and genuinely valued. The Lion Hotel has everything you could ask for: wonderful food, beautiful rooms full of character, amazing staff and fantastic value for money. Thank you all for making our stay so memorable. FOOD WAS GREAT, however rooms are basic bathroom door was unsuitable as you could see someone using the toilet also the room was hot and stuffy we had the window open and a big fan going and was still sweating. if you have mobility issues dont book here as the stairs are narrow and not the best and the building is 3 story high,also its a bit of a walk from the hotel to the public car park .this hotel is unmanned during the night.
