The Luib Hotel

This place has no pretence or delusions about it at all. It knows exactly what it is, and the market it serves. Given its location, it's a 'transit' hotel- its catering for overnight travellers who want a bed for the night and a hearty breakfast in the morning. The staff were all friendly at this family owned and run establishment. Convivial and lively conversation in the residents only bar (which had an excellent selection of Scotch Whiskeys) with the owner. The beds were clean, comfortable and towels provided. The room served exactly the purpose its meant for. This is not a Hilton - its basic and functional. If you're looking for spotless luxury, this 400 year old building is not for you. If you're looking for a bed for the night and a superb home cooked full breakfast with as much toast and coffee as you need, you'll be happy. Floors are uneven, stairs creak and the place could use a lick of paint in some places. But I'd return again in a heartbeat, if just for the breakfast, which, for £10, is unbeatable value!

This looks as if it is closed, actually drove past and had to turn round to get back to it. First impression was that it was dark and dingy. I had a double bed in the room which is a plus when you are on your own. There was a strange smell so I was pleased I had my lavender spray with me! They whole place could have done with a deep clean, especially the en suite. The evening meal, which was locally sourced, came from the freezer! Breakfast was described as a 'Scottish' Breakfast and not very appetizing. I didn't see any fruit or cereals. The staff weren't unfriendly, neither were they particularly sociable.

fantastic experience, great bed, super shower, dinner is simple but tasty and you pay for it. breakfast with a Scottish breakfast. staff is super friendly, service is great and when you step outside the view is breathtaking. the only downside we found is that it is on the main road
