The Grange Hotel

Had a lovely stay here last night. Lovely hotel, easy check-in and was very clean. Easy parking at the front of the building. We arrived late and left early so we were not able to eat here. The room, number 9 is a lovely spacious room, large bed, desk space and a good sized bathroom. I would definitely come back.

I booked this hotel for an overnight stay whilst on business, as it's close to where I was required to be however, when I told my colleague who had stayed here before, she advised me to cancel. Unfortunately, cancellations are not possible if under 48 hours prior to arrival. Despite my company providing credit card details with the booking to cover the costs of dinner and breakfast, on arrival at check-in, I was asked for my own debit card to cover any damages to the room. This was a first on me. My card was charged £1 which has never been refunded. I arrived just as the restaurant was closing, so I quickly ordered a Caesar Salad to take up to my room. The food here is delicious, hence the 2 rather than 1 star. When booking rooms, they offer a choice of a small double, standard double, suite etc. I booked the small double which at £75 for the night is not exactly pennies. I was pre-warned on checking-in that the room is small. The room was an absolute joke with sloping ceilings, resulting in me constantly banging my head and I'm not exactly tall at 5' 10". The bathroom had no shelf to put toiletries on, resulting in having to use the toilet cistern as a shelf. The sink was the smallest wash hand basin ever. I've seen bigger sinks in people's down stairs toilets or in a caravan. How a man is supposed to shave using this sink is beyond me. No running hot water to the sink. I had to fill the sink by stretching the electric shower hose over it. My room overlooked some timber outhouses which were dilapidated and falling to bits - a sign of the general upkeep of the hotel. I ordered breakfast and waited 15 minutes for avocado on toast. Again delicious. The small pot of coffee arrived with the food (15 mins after ordering) which was basically hot, brown water and not drinkable. If you have a choice of hotel, I'd stay elsewhere. I've reported my findings to work who are removing this hotel as an option from our booking system.

We came here for a lovely Swedish massage. We would highly recommend, the room was large, cosy and the massage was amazing. They were fully booked for food as they had several parties and afternoon tea's booked, however they made time for us and we had a wondeful meal! All food was home made, I would highly recommend the duck pancakes, beef brisket buns and garlic mushroom starter. It really was amazing and we can't wait to go back to taste their curry! We were interested in staying one evening so staff were more than happy to show us one of the lodges which was lovely. It has a country/victorian feel to it so don't expect anything modern but we really loved that it was quiet with a beautiful garden. If your looking for somewhere to unwind and relax this will be perfect for you. Reasonable prices too. Thank you, Kristie and Andrew
