Wotton House

Parts of this hotel are great and other bits need some work. The setting is lovely and the public areas by and large are very pleasant. Oddly though someone has decided that the main restaurant terrace will benefit from the construction of a cheap Swiss chalet style hot dog hut. It ruins the aesthetic and whoever thought that was a good idea should be moved on. Our room was pleasant although some peeling paint and damp patches. The windows are single glazed, probably due to listed building status, so you hear every crunch of gravel and noise outside. At just after midnight the staff empty all the days bottles into a recycling bin that is intelligently placed in a courtyard surrounded by bedrooms so that wakes up all the guests who might have dozed off. Dinner was excellent, breakfast mediocre. Staff very pleasant although they need more than one person on reception when it gets busy. Swimming pool and jacuzzi ok but pool small and not very long. Some lovely walks into the Surrey hills from the hotel.

We got married here in Dec and have been back several times since , I can honestly say we’ve never had a bad experience. We came for a night away last week , and was greeted by the lovely Kristina, who very kindly upgraded our room for us . All the staff are so friendly, which makes a huge difference to any stay . Dinner was good , service outstanding. Special mention to whoever made my Pina Colada , wow , that was so good !! Already looking forward to my next visit

Booked an overnight stay at Wootton House to celebrate our wedding anniversary and for a change of scenery whilst dealing with a health issue. We didn’t want to travel too far from home for this reason and were glad that we picked Wootton House. It was lovely and secluded with beautiful grounds and surroundings with the sun shining down, giving an air of tranquil on a lovely summer’s day. It was a pleasure to sit in the chairs on the lawn soaking up the atmosphere and taking it all in. Our junior suite room was gorgeous with beautiful views and to see a wedding taking place upon our arrival just seemed so befitting, a reminder of our special day many years ago! The house is full of character with lots of space and an open airy feeling, but cosy at the same time. All the staff we spoke to were very accommodating with a special mention to Elena on reception and Maddie in the restaurant on Sunday evening. Elena made us feel extremely welcome upon our arrival and was very helpful with any questions we had, getting us off to a good start and the charming lady who brought up a bottle of prosecco for us to celebrate with was so kind. It was such a lovely gesture by the hotel and we just want to say ‘Thank you’. At our evening meal, we then spoke to the lovely Maddie who took our order and surprised us with a plate decorated and signed with the words ‘Happy Anniversary’. It was another lovely touch, especially appreciated by us at this time and I really am sincere when I say it made our stay more special. The lady on reception in the evening was also very warm and friendly. Another shout out goes to the bar staff who were very helpful and the two gentlemen we spoke to helping with the wedding arrangements, (I think it was the Toastmaster and a manager of the hotel) who we chatted with briefly. It goes without saying that we would love to return at some point in the future to enjoy the warm hospitality shown to us by this stellar team!
