Farnham House

Should have read the reviews! Pot holed drive way, decent free parking close to the house. Tired decor, overly soft bed, curtains that don’t block the car park lighting. You can hear every move of the guests either side and above, fortunately hotel appears to be fairly empty so relatively quiet. Single room is barely bigger than a box room, compact would be generous. No bedside light, had to get out of bed to turn main lights on/off, only one of the two small reading lamps on the small desk worked. Reasonable free wifi. Tiny TV, Bathroom small but clean. Reception staff were friendly, though no lift and no offer of help with bags. Luckily able bodied so can carry own luggage up several flights of creaky stairs. No restaurant for evening meal so had to go out. Had a coffee in the bar which was very overpriced. Was looking forward to a walk in the gardens but was very disappointed. Looks to be set up for weddings with a ghastly gazebo type thing, plastic garlands and a moon gate going no where. Took all of 10 minutes to walk around them. More collapsed country house than posh hotel. Would not stay again. Would not recommend.

Booked a double room three weeks beforehand as we were attending a party nearby. Very reasonable room rate, so didn't expect a lot but was pleasantly surprised. We had room 2 which was directly opposite a function room. This could have been a problem had there been a function taking place (it was a Saturday night), but we were lucky. Friendly welcome from the receptionist and a clean functional and nicely appointed room.

Stayed here on Friday night before a wedding at a different venue the next day. I had asked a few questions via email in advance; were there fridges in the room? No, but you can leave whatever you want in our fridge. Were there decent fans in the room? Yes On arrival, I was told I couldn't put anything in the fridge but showed my email and was then allowed! The fan situation was horrendous. Bear in mind, this is an old building and my friend and I were put in the top of it- it was unbearable! We asked for another fan but were told there were no others. At 03:30am on Saturday morning, we were woken by the bangs on the fire doors closing and all the power going. From then on, no one slept due to the heat! We were told it would be 9am at the earliest! We could not wash our hair as there would be no way of drying it and couldn't have breakfast. Chloe was helpful in trying to sort and said we could go to a sister hotel 15 mins away but if you don't have a car, that isn't practical. I have emailed about refunds or partial refunds for the Friday night and not heard a thing! The power did not actually come back on until gone 10pm as friends were staying there an additional night. This hotel needs a seriously good refurb with all bathroom suites knocking out and redone. I would not stay here again unless serious cosmetic changes were made!
