I work regularly in Aldershot and I was looking for a reasonably priced option that had leisure facilities. Despite the number of negative reviews, I decided to try the Hog‘s Back. Full disclosure, I’m a low maintenance guest, don’t use a Tesla charger and know how to register my vehicle at the front desk for the hotel parking. I didn’t eat there apart from breakfast. My room was large and clean. The bed was large, comfortable and clean, The TV was large, flat screen. The bathroom was clean and well maintained with a bath and shower. The room was secure and quiet. Breakfast was buffet style, with a very good range of hot and cold choices - the breakfast area was pleasant, as were for the most part, the staff. The gym was small but well appointed, with a good cross trainer and rowing machines, and it was air conditioned. The pool area was pleasant. The pool was a round affair, not really the sort you could exercise in. It had a jacuzzi in one corner. There was also a sauna a f steam room. Both were clean and very efficient. Negatives? The week I was staying was very warm and the room had no AC, only a small desk fan. My room got housekeeping only on one day, not sure if that is policy, but I didn’t really need anything so no big deal. All in all I’d say a far better experience than the recent reviews were telling me to expect.

Unfortunately our stay here was very unpleasant due to the lack of air con - our room stayed at 30C consistently all night, even with two fans on and the window cracked open, which meant we barely slept. Would strongly advise against booking this hotel over summer if you have a baby or very young children, as the temperature could be unsafe for them to sleep in. We were having a night away at a wedding nearby without our baby thankfully, but slept much worse without her! Would suggest to management that, if installing aircon is too expensive, please invest in decent fans - the ones we were given looked old and hardly did anything. Oh, and to top it all off, the fire alarm went off at 5.30am!

Picked this hotel and Spa for a budgeted get away with friends. I think it’s fair to say for what we individually paid we were expecting nice but basic. We were surprised by all aspects, breakfast was great, rooms well equipped, comfy bed, friendly and helpful staff. The Spa pool is small but ample and a nice addition to the stay. In all our views it was really good value!! We look forward to returning.
