Holland House

We recently stayed when Barry Manilow came to Cardiff. The hotel was really nice. The swimming pool, jacuzzi and Sauna made this a lovely hotel to stay at. The rooms were nice too. The receptionist Jidi was very polite and friendly and Saif in the spa was also friendly and polite and provided excellent service.

I spent six days at the Holland House Hotel as part of a small convention. What I liked: Spacious bedrooms. Plenty of room to spread out. Delicious lunches provided as part of our convention. Great location: only a 10- to 15-minute walk to the city centre, and a 15- to 20-minute walk to Cardiff Castle. Speedy elevators. What I didn’t like: No ramp from the street up to the hotel. It was very difficult lugging two heavy suitcases up 10 steps. Hotel doesn’t offer any laundry service. Front desk staff didn't offer any suggestions. To get your bedroom cleaned, you have to schedule the service a day before using a QR code. Our room had a couple of big stains on the carpet. Several people in our group had difficulty figuring out how to turn their TVs on. (You have to press the power button on the side of the TV and then one of the number buttons on the remote.) Front desk staff seemed indifferent to our requests. Perhaps it's just a British thing of not being particularly helpful.

Friendly staff in the restaurant and bar area , priced reasonably and good food. Room very disappointing as was very tired looking and marks on the wardrobe and mirrors not cleaned . Curtains had holes in them and didn’t fit all the way to cover the window. No where to sit and do your hair or make up with a mirror. Generally not 4 star standard for a superior room. I did ask if we could move to another room as we weren’t happy. Unfortunately they weren’t able too as says they were full. I except that. I wasn’t rude just hoping to be understood and definitely valid. I didn’t really get the response I was looking for not really an apology for being disappointed. So then I decided to go for a swim and it wasn’t just £10 for the day it was per swim which personally I feel far too much as advertised as a hotel with a spa I’ve never paid extra to use in other hotels so maybe it’s something they should clarify as I certainly wouldn’t of stayed there knowing that. Location was great a short walk to the castle and city centre. But unfortunately we would not come back given our disappointment in our room and extra money to use the pool .
