BANKTON HOUSE HOTEL

We cannot recommend Bankton House highly enough. It's a true gem, set in a quiet woodland setting, yet just minutes away from the fast train to Edinburgh. Owner Nadia and her family team run a friendly and efficient hotel. The lounge bar is perfect for pre-dinner drinks and all meals in the restaurant are superb. Our studio accommodation in the newly renovated stable block was perfect - tasteful and comfortable. Full marks to all. Ian and Deirdre Speirs

I really want to give this hotel an amazing review so I’ll start with the positives. The suite room was lovely, nice decor, extremely comfortable bed, great shower and bath. Coffee machine took a while to figure out but my husband enjoyed the cup he had. TV had Netflix etc. the Bistro was delightful , young waitresses going above and beyond, the bar was fine too. Lovely grounds. Would be ideal for an intimate wedding setting. Now for the negatives. The hotel is mainly unmannned so very little human interaction. All dealings are done through the portal, including contacting staff if you have an issue. Breakfast is not included you need to purchase a breakfast to go (£10 per person) which comprises of a small pot of granola, yoghurt and fruit, small bottle of fruit juice and a chocolate croissant, which is left for you in a small fridge downstairs. Cheaper to go local to the garden centre When you book, the hotel “take” £150 security fee which is refunded once they check your room to see if it has been left in a good standard. Finally if using a sat nav beware it takes you everywhere except where you want to be. As I said I wanted to give a good review however there were a few negatives that I can’t really gloss over.

Popped in after finding ourselves with an hours to spare after getting off the train. Just followed the signs and what a fantastic find. Very friendly. Cozy. Great fa fresh food. Delicious. The waitress was charming and made us extremely welcome. Recommended if you’re in the area.
