Dirty the bathroom door was so hard to open stiff dragged on the floor , the carpet was filthy beds had seen better days

We've recently returned from a 4 night stay at the Livingston Lodge (30 July to 3 August 2026). On first impression I must admit that I was a little shocked at the appearance and the location of the hotel as it's situated within a housing estate. However the staff couldn't have been nicer or more friendly. The receptionist was so pleasant and welcoming and showed us to our room. It was basic but very clean. One thing that I would note was that there were no mugs provided for the tea/coffee facilities - just flimsy, plastic cups - the type you'd get from a water dispenser. Yes the room needed updating as did the the areas of the hotel that we saw but we did book rather late and appreciated that at least we'd got a room. Our room unfortunately overlooked the bar area which was a little noisy on our last night ( Sunday night). On the other nights, the noise was to be expected and stopped around 11.00 PM. The bar was great and drinks were very, very reasonable. It was how pubs used to be. Friendly, helpful bar staff. One lady especially made me a coffee on our initial visit to the bar (we'd been travelling for 7 hours) which was very welcoming. My husband enjoyed the sports programmes on the screens. The bar was supported by locals who were all brilliant and friendly to us 'visitors'. Breakfast was just perfect on all our mornings there. Beautifully and freshly cooked served by a wonderful lady called Julie. We had dinner there on 2 occasions and these meals were equally delicious and beautifully presented. The restaurant was basic but very clean and the atmosphere was lovely, informal and happy. Staff were again very friendly and helpful. Our room was tidied each morning (we were out all day) and beverages replenished. The towels were not changed but we didn't mind this. Overall - I would definitely return to the Livingston Lodge but would ask for a room that didn't overlook the bar. After our first day there we found the station - a 15 minute walk away with easy access to both Glasgow and Edinburgh. Thanks to everyone for a great stay. Very friendly staff that were welcoming and attentive from the moment i arrived. The room was clean and comfortable. Bar was nice with a good selection of beers and plenty of good-sized screens for sporting events. Don't understand the negative reviews on here, as i would definitely stay again.
