Birmingham Central Backpackers was an okay hostel. It was very close to the central train station, which was very nice for transport to and from the hostel. It was a bit of a walk into the city center (around 20 minutes), not too bad but you definitely have a bit of a way to go. I stayed in a 14 bed co-ed room. It was a VERY tight squeeze. Three beds stacked on top of each other, bottom on the floor and top way up a latter. There were curtains around the bed, which was nice. The place was pretty clean, but a little grungy and grimy. There was a communal kitchen, but it was quite small. The staff was very kind!

The staff here are absolutely lovely, very helpful, friendly and accommodating. However, if you want to sleep I would go elsewhere. I was there on a Saturday night and people were partying/fighting/honking car horns to the beat/smashing glass bottles right outside our window until 5.30 am. The rooms are hot and airless. The neighborhood is sketchy. That being said, the people are truly wonderful and could not be doing a better job.

Unfortunately due to me forgetting my photo id I was unable to check in. But thanks to the arrogance of the foreign chap on reception I wouldn't have stayed anyway. Heard the customer service was first class This guy was second rate at best.
