Ibis Birmingham City Centre

Manager was useless, apparently you can pre book parking with your parking space, however when you turn up the receptionist will tell you it’s full and you need to find else where. Even if you show them the booking reference they won’t do anything and say take it up with YPS Turns out the manager hasn’t got a clue and it is in fact the responsibility on the Ibis to make sure there is adequate parking for pre booking

Lovely funky looking hotel in a great location close to all amenities. Friendly and helpful staff. Rooms clean and comfortable. We didn’t have breakfast but had one evening meal. I had the beef lasagne it was tasty but little to no beef this could be improved. Also the cleaning lady came to our room the 2 mornings we were there to see if we wanted our room cleaned which I didn’t appreciate as we were in the middle of getting ready to go out the first morning and the second morning we were checking out anyway. I would have thought she would clean the room once we put up the sign on the door.

The room was tiny and it was like stepping back in time, but in the worst way. Lots of brown, lots of wood chip. Even wood chip on the ceiling. There were marks on the thick layers of paint, even old chewing gum stuck on it near the bed. It was no longer a heatwave but the room was intolerably hot. It was equipped with a vintage huge boxy air con unit under the window, which managed to be both incredibly loud and wholly ineffective, seeming to actually heat the room despite being set to maximum cooling. Opening the window didn't improve things - the rooms have secondary glazing and the external pane only opens a crack and onto a noisy street. It just wasn't possible to cool the room. The bathroom was an old plastic modular one, with a shower that was very difficult to use - the controls were hard to persuade to turn the water on, then wouldn't adjust the temperature. It was then hard to turn the water off. The one spare wall socket in the room didn't work, it didn't seem to hold the plug in. The tray with the kettle took up so much space on the tiny desk there was only room for a laptop making for incredibly cramped working conditions. Breakfast wasn't all laid out when it should have been, they were still putting things out 10 minutes after it should have started. The milk had been sat out for some time, it was warm. They provide child sized bowls for cereal. Finally, if you don't want to take the lift it's hard to find and use stairs due to poor signage. A really terrible hotel. Might be ok if you drink enough that you don't mind where you sleep.
