Novotel Coventry M6 J3 Hotel

reception is jive but don’t let that deceive you. the corridors and rooms are old and dated. carpets are heavily stained and a smell to rooms (like old smoke) and doesn’t warrant superior rooms as detailed just the cost is high. I witnessed staff being very rude and overall aggressive to a mother with her daughter last night on their own which was horrible to see. I would not recommend coming here.

The staff here are friendly and very pleasant - no problem there. The main issue is the tired, old building and maintenance and cleaning issues. We have stayed at many Novotels and this is by far the worst. In the public areas like bar, dining room and corridors the carpets are dirty and stained - they need cleaning or replacing. The Mens' toilet had an unpleasant baseline smell and there was a small hole in the wall that had not been repaired. In the bar we went to sit on a sofa - it had a rip in the upholstery and the seat cushions were dirty and heavily stained. We went to sit at a table, it was noon and no one else had sat there but there was food debris and dirt under it, that had not been vacuumed up. Corridors - doors all scuffed and chipped. Food and beverage: On the day time menu tomatoes are spelt as tomato's, croutons as crotons and spicy as spicey. Breakfast was a disaster. The food was OK but they are just not organised. Most breakfast buffets operate on a 'just in time' system. When a particular dish is down to a quarter left you would expect them to tell the kitchen, and then when the refill dish comes out they tip anything left in the original dish into this and off you go. Here they operate on a 'not in time' system. They wait until a dish completely runs out and then they tell the kitchen - so you are waiting 5 to 15 minutes for items to be replenished. When I went up to get my hot breakfast they were waiting for tomatoes, mushrooms, scrambled egg, bacon and sausages. Not a problem if you want baked beans, fried egg and hash browns for breakfast. What are you supposed to do, wait there for an extended period for stuff to turn up, while what you do have on your plate goes cold? I was worried about what the bedroom would be like - it was ok except for an area of the carpet that was stained. I think part of the issue with this hotel (apart from it needing to be knocked down) is that it is walking distance from the Coventry Arena, so it gets a lot of trade for that reason alone, no matter what it is like. Complacency has set in and standards have slipped.

Not really sure why there are negative reviews. We had a fabulous stay. We mentioned it was our anniversary and we walked into a lovely surprise. Petals everywhere and gifted rituals bag of goodies. The breakfast was lovely. Stunning gardens. For both couples and families this hotel is brilliant.
