The Fox Goes Free

Wonderful place to stay! We were attending a wedding at the close by Weald and Downland Museum so stayed Friday and Saturday night. Nestled in the heart of the downs the atmosphere is quite magical and interior just charming. A perfect secret. Our room was a twin, immaculately clean and well appointed and again, charming. Linen was heavy gauge and mattresses were premium. If I had to be picky, there may have been one too many cushions..maybe just a guy thing though. Breakfast was truly outstanding, we had the full English and peeked over at fellow guests veggy options and other delights. My wife was poorly on the Sunday morning and I asked if we could check out late. The landlord readily agreed and was very kind in asking if anything else could be done. Honestly, just a lovely stay.

We stayed at The Fox Runs Free for three nights. Neither of us knew the area at all but the pub certainly looked attractive and welcoming - and how right we were. The staff couldn’t have been anymore helpful if they tried, honestly nothing was too much trouble, a member of staff carried our suitcases up to our room and when we were ready to leave they carried the suitcases down and put them in the car. How good is that. Our room was lovely, bed very comfortable and the shower worked like a dream. Plenty of wardrobe space for clothes. Food and drinks were fantastic. I had chicken and leek pie and I can honestly say I have never tasted pastry as good. The pastry just melted in the mouth. We can truly recommend this pub if you are looking for a relaxing place with lovely views and a great garden space to sit in.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ A fantastic stop after Goodwood. The pub is in a great location, with a lovely atmosphere, and we thoroughly enjoyed our visit. A special mention to Amy, who was outstanding. She was polite, welcoming and incredibly helpful throughout our visit, with such a warm, friendly personality. Nothing was too much trouble, and she really made the experience memorable. Amy is a real credit to the pub, and we’ll definitely be back.
