Hyde Park Court Hotel

We booked this hotel in January 2026 for our stay in June, as we were attending BST Hyde Park and wanted somewhere within walking distance. Hotel prices in the area are generally quite high, but Hyde Park Court seemed reasonably priced. The interior photos showed a dated hotel, but we didn't mind that as long as it was clean. On arrival, the reception area was basic, tired and in need of some TLC. Stairs led to the upper floors, and we were allocated Room 201. The bedroom door looked shabby, which immediately made me wonder what lay beyond. To say I was shocked when we opened it would be an understatement. The room was extremely small, with a double bed pushed against the window wall, meaning only one side of the bed was accessible. There was a basic freestanding wardrobe that leaned precariously, with pieces of cardboard wedged underneath to stop it from tipping. When I opened the wardrobe door, the entire wardrobe lurched towards me and would have fallen had my husband not caught it in time. This was a serious safety hazard. Inside the wardrobe was a safe and a spare pillow simply shoved into a drawer. The room had a single cube shelf fixed to the wall, holding a kettle, cups and a telephone. There were no bedside tables, although there wasn't really room for them. The only positive feature was an old-style wall-mounted fan, without which the room would have been unbearably hot. The en-suite bathroom was very small but perfectly adequate for us. Unfortunately, it had a strong drain-like smell. The bathroom door and frame were dirty, with years of built-up grime in the corners that looked as though it had not been cleaned properly for a long time. Outside the bathroom, near the room door, there were old brown splashes on the wall above the waste bin that also appeared to have been there for some time. The hairdryer repeatedly cut out after about a minute of use. We couldn't wait to leave the room and find somewhere to eat. When we returned later that evening, the bed itself was reasonably comfortable and the sheets appeared clean. However, the mattress had a plastic protector underneath the sheet, which made it extremely hot and uncomfortable to sleep on. I appreciate that you often get what you pay for, but this hotel was by no means cheap. In fact, I have stayed in far less expensive hotels that were cleaner, safer and much better maintained. I genuinely cannot understand how Booking.com continues to advertise this property. I even tried to submit a review through Booking.com, but it was rejected. I would definitely not recommend this hotel.

On first impression, this hotel looks quite nice from the outside and the reception area is clean, tidy, and welcoming. Unfortunately, once you get beyond reception, the rest of the building feels very tired, dated, and in need of refurbishment. We stayed in a family room which was a good size, however there was a spiral staircase with staggered treads leading up to two single beds. The banister was extremely wobbly and did not feel safe, particularly for children. We also noticed signs of damp within the room. Another downside is the location directly next to the tube line. While being close to Paddington Station is convenient, you can clearly hear every train passing and the building noticeably vibrates and rumbles throughout the day and night. Breakfast was particularly disappointing and did not match what was advertised. The atmosphere in the breakfast room felt awkward from the moment we walked in, and the continental selection was very limited. The options consisted of shop-bought croissants and pain au chocolat, Coco Pops or Cornflakes, and a choice of white or brown bread. The hotel advertised a “buffet breakfast” and a “full English breakfast”, including photos, but this was not what was provided. All three of us ordered fried eggs on toast and were served a plate containing three cold fried eggs with no toast – effectively one egg each. The positives are that the hotel is only a 3-minute walk from Paddington Station, there are plenty of shops and food outlets nearby, fans were provided in the room, the hairdryer was decent, and the reception staff were friendly and welcoming. Unfortunately, the condition of the building, concerns over room safety, noise from the tube, and the misleading breakfast advertisement meant our stay fell well below expectations.

Derudover var der meget lyst da døren stoppede 5cm over dørtrinnet så man kunne høre alt hvad der foregik på de andre værelser. Servicen var også dårlig, der blev ikke beklaget eller gjort noget ved problemet Vi gik efter ca 45 minutter og måtte finde et nyt hotel… A very bad experience, with a dirty room containing chips and hair in the beds, no soap in the bathroom, and neither a toilet brush or a hand towel. On top of that, the room was very bright because the door stopped about 5 cm above the threshold, so you could hear everything going on in the other rooms. The service was also poor there was no apology and nothing was done to address the problem. We left after about 45 minutes and had to find a new hotel…
