HOLIDAY INN GARFORTH

Just want to write a review to praise staff and management after a mishap tonight. We checked in at 2145. Told the bar was closed for food but we could order of the 24 hour menu which we promptly did..... Only for a bit of an upity woman to come out and tell the barmaid (she wouldn't tell us ourselves) that the would not accept the order. To be honest I think she was throwing the barmaid under the bus... it was her decision to not take the order.... surely she should have given the customers the bad news......? Bit of a disspointment to be told the 24 hour menu is not 24 hours.... but to be fair it is a bit of a #firstworldproblem. Anyway we were arranging a refund for the food we paid for when both the General Manager and the Duty Manager made themselves known to us, apologised for the mistake and assured us that the food was on the way. My interperetation is that the chef was unhappy as their shift was ending and they wanted to go home.... It was really refeshing to see not one, but 2 managers see what was going on, realsiing the hotel was offering a dis-service and working to put it right. Honestly I didn't think this kind of thing happenned any more. It made a refreshing change. Keep up the good work guys, and igore the haters.... you are doing a fantastic job! We'll deff stay with you again next time we come oop north. Pete

The Holiday Inn Hotel was a big let down especially as it is a 4star hotel. The cleanliness was very poor as there were multiple issues with our room, i.e.: Mould in various parts of the bathroom, smell from the carpet which smelled of dog which was very off putting, ink mark on ceiling, cob webs in multiple areas around the room, we had to complain about the pillows and get them to replace with new ones, the evening food was not great at all we had to serve ourselves with the food, the menu choice was completely different to what was provided around the hotel, I had to complain about it as one of the choices was a mince onion pie which was horrible looking plus I don't like onions, there was veg wellington which I couldn't eat as it was fake meat, I had chips gravy and runner beans so I strongly complained and eventually came out with some chicken. it was as if it’s only a tour group let’s give them any rubbish. On the second evening they changed our food times without telling the driver as they had a second tour group come in. The next morning our breakfast food time was chaotic as the second group was having breakfast at the same time which meant everything took longer and I to rush my food to get on the coach to leave. the driver had asked them to let us have an earlier sitting; they refused to accommodate which was completely ridicules as they expected us to change our evening mealtime without consulting the driver. our overall experience of this hotel was not good, defiantly won't staying there again. I took photos of our room which we paid for a premium room, we certainly didn't get value for our money.

Have stayed in many Holiday Inns as a IHG members, this one didn’t meet expectations. The room wasn’t as clean as normal, a lot of dust and cobwebs carpet needed hoovering. A strange smell in the room we couldn’t decide what it was. Bed was very uncomfortable and the sofa bed had a very thin mattress and no mattress topper. The hotel was also very noisy and you could hear other guests talking at 4 am The pool was quite small but usable, however my daughter described the water as foggy, she couldn’t see when under the water not sure what would cause this. The evening check in staff were polite and friendly. The breakfast staff were amazing and warmed up muffins for my daughter when none were available. We weren’t asked on check out how the stay was and no reference to us being members that we have had at other hotels.
