The Boundary Hotel

Whilst the location is fantastic for overnighting when seeing events at Headingley Stadium, what you get in return for saving a few quid is not worth it at all. My hotel, unbeknownst to me when booking, was an underground room with a view fit for a prison cell and probably less comfort than your average cell too. It had some pace to it, but I'd have definitely been happier with more cramped quarters with better quality of room. The floorboards and bed were so creaky that any time you moved you made a startling amount of noise. The mattress was completely worn thin and, to my horror discovering when removing the sheets prior to checkout, unhygenically stained to boot. The walls were very thin so I could constantly hear the TVs of my neighbouring rooms, and the ceiling were seemingly even thinner as I could hear everything going on in the reception that was above me. That's not to mention the stench of weed and cat urine that you get when walking down the dangerously thin and steep steps. Other reviews state the staff are friendly and helpful, which sadly was not my experience. I was greeted with a rather blunt and rude feeling "welcome" and bore witness to them having a domestic with a fellow patron who may or may not have been barred from the facilities previously. Checking out was similarly blunt and uncaring, not even bothering to query how my experience had been over the course of my stay. Had I not booked a non-refundable train journey home for after the second night, I would have left in a heartbeat after the first.

Group of us booked in to this venue with a variety of days from fri>mon morning. The Parking out back is possibly the best part of it…. Staff - friendly, Reception area - dated, carpet is looking extremely tired. Access to room - age of building prevents lifts access - lots of creaky stairs. Room - Visible areas mostly hoovered - under bed - tops of surfaces not done. Bathroom - side of bath has two painted chipboard sections masking under bath area. Shower - pressure was non existent. Drill holes from previous fittings in tiles. Bed area - tiny tv in one corner - furniture dated is best and most generous thing that can be called. Bed was clean. Door was very flimsy, and required some fiddling around to lock. Monday morning someone on same floor was either having a phone conversation at 0530am very loudly with their bedroom door open onto the landing, or had a phone call, either result - disturbed sleep. And same on the Sunday Morning where there was a lot of commotion at the back of the venue. Generally not a place I’d want my partner staying solo, and in fact we changed plans on Sunday and she spent the day out in Leeds rather than working at the hotel. A comparable weekend next year in Premier is 20 quid cheaper - I know where I’ll be.

A lovely little B&B, Mark &Monika (apologies if I spelt that wrong) are fabulous, as are all the staff, it's clean if a little out dated but the friendly charm more makes up for that. Great location, dog friendly, the breakfast is out standing - didn't want to leave - a true gem of a place - I shall return - thank you to all staff for your kindness X
