We stayed in this hotel many years ago and found it very charming with friendly and helpful staff and excellent service. How disappointed we were on our recent visit. I’m not sure it warrants the title of “hotel”.
One member of staff on duty at front desk, no restaurant, no bar, no apparent services that would be expected in this type of hotel.
Very tired and run down. A faint smell of damp and cannabis throughout. People lingering around the hotel entrance at least one of them definitely smoking cannabis (hence the lingering smell).
Bed very uncomfortable, looked very old and well worn.
One staff on duty was extremely helpful and did give us complementary toast and cereal for breakfast.
This hotel could be returned to its original charm, it’s a beautiful building and has a lot of potential. It’s a shame it’s been left to be so run down.

The hotel was a complete disappointment. The dated decor, the stiflingly hot room , cigarette burns on the bathroom counter top, 1 large bath towel for a couple, the very poor bed, the hairdryer that sounded like it had loose ball bearings inside.. What was a long weekend turned out to be 1 restless night and an early departure. Oh and what the lovely pictures don't show is how run down and overgrown everywhere is. The cherry on this cake is the M62 Is just behind the trees.
Thinking of booking???

The room was clean, comfortable and had recently been renovated.
The staff were friendly and there was ample parking.
The hotel is just outside of Huddersfield so it is rural and quiet but it is easy to get to the town, shops and retail parks.
The building appears to be Victorian and is attractive. The modern extensions have been been constructed in a sympathetic way so they blend in with the original house.
Good value for money. A Travelodge and Premier Inn in the same area would have been about 50% more.
The communal areas of the hotel appear a little tired. For example the internal doors.
Next to my room are doors and stairs down to the ground floor fire exit. However, the external fire exit door was no longer attached and was laying flat on the floor. In addition to the security risk, it mean that the wind would howl down the corridor (the hotel is rural and the grounds are open to the wind).
The restaurant and bar are not available and the hotel can only offer a continental breakfast. However, it is made very clear at the time of booking and checking in that this is the case. I hope this is a temporary measure and that the hotel are renovating and recruiting to offer this in the future. As this would really enhance a stay at this hotel.
I know a lot of locals thought that this hotel was permanently closed. I believe that the hotel had closed but reopened under new management, which explains some of the things I have mentioned and why the hotel seemed really empty and to some a little creepy.
