The Crown Inn

First of all, in my opinion, it is not safe to leave your car on their parking. it is literally between main road and fields protected by some bushes. I'm not sure CCTV was warking as two of the four cameras looked like a decoration for post-apocalypse tv-show. Secondly, If you arrive earlier as we did you will kiss the locked doors, nobody is there. So you have to kill some time till 3 PM. Ok, fair enough, that was advertised. So we left the car and went wondering around Castle Combe (just 2 miles away). When we got back at 5:30 (ish) we have been informed that kitchen and bar are closed due to some leaks because of the storm (storm hit that area 4-5 days ago) and we can't get food or drinks. The lady at the reception (very polite) offered us the following options: - order takeaway - stay with no food and drinks - go and eat somewhere - go and stay somewhere else - leave And when I asked for compensation as we were driving 3 hours the answer was "You booked through booking.com, talk to them. I can't help you. I would help you if you book directly, but as you used a booking operator, it is on them." In conclusion: - 6 hours of driving (round trip) - ruined weekends - nobody called to make us aware of problems with the kitchen and bar - refused to provide any compensation for all inconvenience - old, poorly maintained inn - The staff does not care about the customers Think twice and stay away

Room was spacious and beds were comfortable but toilet had poo left inside and didn’t flush properly. There was only 2 small milk left for 3 people sharing. Bathroom needs cleaning and updating. Guest book and signs on the door say open from 7am we attempted to check out at 7:45 due to an event in Bath at 8:30 we were attending and the place was empty no staff on site to leave a key with no answer on the phone for us to find out what to do with the key, we tried to phone later to speak with someone but to no answer at all.

Called in for a pint recently while on a ride. Nice selection of real ales and great setting. Had previously eaten here and the food is great, nice local produce and friendly staff. I'd be happy to visit again
