The Angel Inn

It is so nice when the staff go out of their way to be helpful. There were three of us one of whom was blind, two had three couses and one had one. The vegan member throughly enjoyed his three courses ending with a coconut pannacota. Another member had lovely soup with a generous portion of bread and butter followed by a seafood linguine. The third member had a very good fish and chips. We shall be returning again.

We booked this hotel for it's proximity to Longleat. My room was a good size, with a perfectly adequate bathroom. However, the housekeeping fell short of what it should be. I shared the shower with a spider in it's web in the corner and there was a snail living above the toilet. Lots of thick cobwebs around the wardrobe in the bedroom. Generally shoddy cleaning. The radiator in the bedroom wasn't working, which made for a chilly room thanks to the draughty windows (yes it is an old building). Rooms reached via a steep, dark starcase. We ate dinner in the restaurant and the food was very good. Can't comment on breakfast as they started serving too late for us.

Booked by telephone told we had king size room with bath and shower commented how I really wanted a bath but Husband showers and they confirmed we had both. Arrived and had to pay before we saw the room. Taken to room which was quiet small very dark with over large mirrored wardrobe and a full size mirror on a stand also an old fashioned bureau with only one chair which would be too low to work at desk. The large bathroom had NO BATH. Spoke with lady in pub who said they only had one room with a bath in Room 5 and although we had been booked into it they decided to bump us out for someone else wanting 3 nights! The not pleasant Room 2 was the same price and although we asked for a discount none was forthcoming. There were no other rooms available. The shower had about 1 minute of hot water and was then very tepid and certainly not hot enough to wash hair. The tile grouting is black and disgusting with mould and even the outside of the frame was brown at the base. The basin was also minus any hot water. To cap it all at 4am the fire alarm went off with no way of turning it off It was so loud and woke us both with an almighty shock and heart palpitations Nobody came to check or see if we were alright and nobody, contrary to the information sheet had told us where to muster. A guest in the next room was also angry as he had stayed very recently and the alarm had gone off then so has obviously not been fixed. The very rare night away was ruined.
