The Wiltshire

Yes, as per other reviews, the hotel has clearly seen better days. While efforts are actively being made to restore it to working, acceptable order, it would probably be better to close for a significant period to complete the works and come back fresh as there is a lot that needs doing that probably can't be done with the hotel open and running. Stayed in a spacious but dated room with numerous cosmetic and functional issues (plug sockets that won't take a plug, switches that don't correlate with nearby lights when switched on, cracked bathroom wall tiles, moving bathroom floor tiles, tired decor.) Dining area, gym area and bar are all agreeable. Staff polite. Breakfast decent. Reception curiously shrouded in darkness. The hotel has real potential and could be something special with significant capital investment and a full refurbishment, or even reconstruction. In its current form it's less than ideal. I would be disappointed but not at all surprised if - in the future - it's ultimately sold and housing pops up in its place should it continue on its present trajectory. A shame as it could be really good.

Went for a golf weekend with large group of friends - had to leave after 1 game as course was unplayable, terrible condition, greens non existent as greens, course maintenance once again non - existent. Hotel 2 star at best, won’t be seeing any of our group again.

What an awful experience. Walking into the building was like going back in time, the dark reception seemed as though it was lit by candles, the awkward check in experience was a sign of things to come as we were asked for driving licence or passport to go with our booking, none of this was relayed to us prior to arrival. Upon entering our room we thought that it was basic but wouldn't be spending much time there so weren't bothered, we weren't expecting 5 star so went with it. After going out for the evening we came back to the room to find at least 10 mosquitos flying around, it was then that we noticed that previous guests had obviously encountered this as there was an abundance of squashed mosquitos on the walls with no attempt by the team to clean it up. We set about doing the same but more and more kept coming, eventually we went to sleep with several buzzing around our heads. We woke up in the morning with several bites and couldn't wait to get out for the day. Arriving back that evening there were even more mosquitos and we spent a ridiculous amount of time attempting to remove them all, went to reception to report the problem and were told there is nothing they can do about mosquitos. Informing guests of the problem before arrival, providing mosquito spray, citronella candles or any other measure was seemingly beyond the realms of possibility for the staff, they could not comprehend that we may not want to be bitten by insects all night when paying for a hotel. We woke in the morning and counted the number of bites on us, at least 30 each. We could not wait to leave. We called the hotel to complain again and management ignored us for the next week. It took several phone calls and emails throughout the week for someone on the phone to admit that they were the customer service manager, we are still attempting to get a resolution to this problem now. We do not want anyone else to give money to these people and have the experience that us and others before had. Do not stay here
