Spread Eagle Inn

We stayed overnight on Saturday 22 August, and our room was clean, bedding, towels and everything. However there appeared to be only one plug, and not adjacent to the mirror, so my wife's hair tongs were difficult to use. Also a moveable shower door needs to be fitted to the bath The main complaint was with our evening meal, which to be frank, was poor. My prawn cocktail was completely tasteless. My wife's calves liver was so tough (Which should never be the case with TRUE calves liver) and the replacement was similarly bad. I thought I would be on "safe" ground by choosing ham, egg and chips. Not the case, poor quality eggs, plastic ham and flabby chips, similar to those available at discount supermarkets. Surprisingly my cooked breakfast was good, other than cardboard like toast. However my wife is not one to eat a cooked breakfast, so the lack of natural yoghurt and a very poor fruit bowl ( 3 small apples and some ancient oranges) meant that in desperation, she ordered 2 poached eggs, one of which was solid !! The staff were efficient, and well mannered I forwarded an email with these comments to the Spread Eagle, but they didn't bother to reply

Had the most amazing stay here, it turned out I was the only person staying in the entire house and I literally felt like I had an experience of what it was like to be a lady of the house back in the day! I come down to breakfast and even though I was the only one staying, there was still full staff cooking breakfast. I woke up to the sound of nothing but the birds tweeting from my window and the house was warm and cosy. The housekeeper was so friendly and attentive and very friendly to have someone to speak to at breakfast. Had a perfect stay and number 5 is my favourite place to stay. Can’t wait to return!

Wonderful old fashioned beautiful place right next to the incredible Stourhead. Beautiful Bedroom. Fantastic Service. Loved it
