Talbot Hotel

We booked one night on our way home from down south. The photos of the pub looked ok. It did say parking round the back or in front of the pub. The front was full, the car park at the back was a council car park, we didnt feel it would be secure over night. On entering the pub, I felt I had not made a good choice, the carpet leading from the bar to the dining area had tape stuck across it, it looked grubby. The stairs leading to the bedroom had a filthy carpet. The room had a dusty musty smell, damp or leak marks on the ceiling. The sash windows, one had broken cord and didnt work , the other had a gap at the bottom. In the bathroom, the white towel had brown stains on. The sink and shower looked clean. I am asthmatic and think the dust affected my breathing. I went straight away to inform the member of staff, I think his name is Darren, he was helpful and went to speak to the manager. He offered to move us to another room. I asked for a refund which he agreed. It is a 500year old property , some wear can be expected, but unfortunately I didnt feel I could stay here.

Came away for a mon-Fri break . The hotel is full of character . The lovely owner Craig is a first class example of how to run a hotel & public house . Nothing is too much , rooms are oldie worldie but lovely & funtional, food is lovely & you just know freshly cooked ( no microwaves here) . Prices are great . Locals also very welcoming . Can not recommend this hotel & its people highly enough . Thank you all we have had a blast Paul, Marie , Do-Ron & Pat xxx

Stayed here last night, superior room, lovely firm mattress , comfy bed, brilliant shower, really good breakfast, the owner Craig is so friendly & welcoming , will definately go when passing.
