We stayed at The Lilly for one night while visiting Llandudno for my birthday. I really wanted to like this place, particularly as the majority of the staff we met on arrival were absolutely lovely, friendly and welcoming, despite a function going on in the restaurant. Unfortunately, the accommodation itself was a real disappointment, we were in the ground floor room 1, and for the price we paid, we expected a much better standard.
Our room had a double bed, which felt very small compared with the king-size beds we are used to when staying away. More importantly, we got very little sleep due to noise and smells coming from the kitchen area.
There were also many maintenance issues in the room, including a cracked bathroom sink, peeling paintwork outside our door and in the room, chipped paintwork on the window sill, there where holes in the walls where I think a mirror once was that could so easily have been covered up, we had a mirror tide up with a tatty piece of string and the light fitting was only about six feet above bed, and had wiring exposed. All this certainly didn't give the impression of the standard we expected for the price.
Breakfast the following morning was probably the most disappointing part of our stay. The cold selection was extremely limited: a bowl of fruit, watered-down fruit juice, inexpensive strawberry yoghurts and a couple of cereals. We sat down in the breakfast room, which itself was perfectly pleasant, but there was no menu on the table to tell us what cooked options were available. A casually dressed member of staff came over and asked what we wanted. When I asked what was available, he simply shrugged his shoulders and said "breakfasts". My husband therefore asked for a cooked breakfast.
I asked whether they did Eggs Benedict and he laughed and said they weren't "that posh". I appreciate that not every hotel offers Eggs Benedict, but I didn't think asking the question warranted being laughed at, particularly given the price we had paid for our stay. When I then asked what else they could offer me, the response was basically "eggs", so I eventually ended up with scrambled eggs on one slice of white toast.
What makes this particularly disappointing is that we regularly stay at another hotel in Llandudno in a similar price bracket and the difference in the quality of the accommodation and breakfast is enormous.
Sadly, based on our experience and the price we paid, we wouldn't choose to stay here again.
