Stourport Manor Hotel

Checked in at 3pm, absolutely fine, no issues there. Room was clean and spacious. Beds were not very comfortable but its not the end of the world. The main bulk of our issues actually started at dinner time. We were told from the off that the hotel had a function on for 80 people. When we sat and the restaurant manager came to our table, we were told No chicken tikka starter and no pork available on the menu. Thats okay for us as we werent really planning on ordering that anyway but limits other peoples choices. The menu was also badly written, ceaser salad description said it came with chicken tikka, basmati rice and a naan. The same description was underneath the paneer curry (vegetarian) and the butter chicken curry. We were then told we needed to order fast as the chef was going to shut off orders so they can cater for the event. Not ideal but okay fine no problem. We ordered 2 BBQ chicken wing starters, 1 nachos starter. For mains we ordered 1 roast beef ciabatta, 1 mince onion pie, 2x sirloin steaks (1 sirloin steak is priced at £29) and a kids Pesto Penne and garlic bread. All ordered fine, 5 mins later told no kids garlic bread so we switched to chips, then were told no pesto its only tomato sauce, so we changed to cod fingers. This is annoying but hey ho is what it is, me and partner have both worked in hospitality (some stuff isnt worth kicking off about) and so we just wanted our daughter to eat and for us to have some food with family. Starters were nice and no issues. Mains came out, our steaks were first, then came the ciabatta and the pie followed behind about 2 minutes later. Our steaks firstly had no chips. The menu stated flat field mushrooms as well which they werent. They were what can only be described as deep fried button mushrooms. The steaks were cooked to rare and medium and they were both fine in terms of the cook, bit charred on the outside but its not the end of the world. But the peppercorn sauce had a skin, the salad was wilted and everything was cold. We asked about the chips and then we mentioned the food isnt great for £29 and we thought the chips would be sent at the same time, we recieved the chips 10 minutes after the steaks. They told us a manager would come and speak with us and it was the same chap who took the order. He listened to our constructive comments, we were not rude, we just explained that there were lots of issues such as having to change our daughters order twice and the steaks being cold the food not being great and the chips situation. He told us about the function and that they are busy, to which i replied that thats fine but if its affecting paying customers shut the restaurant or staff more on. He mentioned that if he was in the kitchen he would have noticed the missing chips and sorted it but he wasnt so how would that help? The conversation was basically a Long walk down a windy beach to a cafe that was shut (pointless) So i spoke to the front desk. He was more understanding and wrote out complaints down and offered us a free dessert which we declined but thanked him for. 2 Other family members asked the bar for a baileys, the menu stated baileys on its own or baileys hot chocolate. They were told they cant have baileys as its not on the till. Yet its on the menu? So he asked for the hot chocolate and they said no we cant do that either as its not on the till. Another member of the family over heard a guest complaining about the taste of their glass of coke. They went to the bar and the barman took the glass took a swig of the coke and said it tastes fine to me and went to give it back 🤣🤣 Overall the hotel is a pretty hotel and the rooms were clean but the restaurant situation was all over the place and really not good. Thats what let the whole place down unfortunately

Nice spa although there was a £5 charge. Room was acceptable. The biggest annoyance was the £10/hour charge for early check in. We arrived at 12.30pm, check in was 3pm. The receptionist told us that the room was ready but we would have to pay £10 per hour to check in early. The receptionist told us this is standard in all hotels. I'm afraid he's wrong, I have never come across this in my life. We refused to pay the surcharge and so did not check in, even though the room was ready. Very poor practice.

We booked a one-night family stay with friends after visiting the Black Country Living Museum. The main reason we chose this hotel was because it had a swimming pool for the children. On arrival at around 4pm, we were given a leaflet stating that children could only use the pool until 5pm. As we wanted to settle into our rooms and had dinner booked, we decided to swim the following morning instead. Before dinner we met our friends in the bar and were surprised to find the hotel was hosting a boxing tournament. We appreciate hotels host events, but it would have been helpful to know this in advance. Boxers and spectators were using the public areas and the corridor where our room was. As the evening went on, the atmosphere became increasingly noisy, and when we returned to the hotel around 9.30pm the bar and outside seating area were very rowdy, which wasn’t ideal for families with younger children. The biggest disappointment came the next morning. Our friends phoned reception beforehand and were told the pool was open, so we all headed to the leisure centre. On arrival, swimming lessons were taking place, only half the pool was available, and there was then a notice saying the pool was closed from 9am until 12pm. As we were checking out that morning, we didn’t get to use the pool at all. The children were extremely disappointed, especially as this was the main reason we’d booked the hotel. We raised our concerns at checkout but were told the staff couldn’t help because the manager wasn’t in until later. We were given an email address to contact instead. Unfortunately, more than a week later we still hadn’t even received an acknowledgement, let alone a response. The room itself was perfectly adequate, but we felt let down by the lack of communication about the pool restrictions and the boxing event. If we’d known in advance that the pool wouldn’t realistically be available during our stay, we would have chosen a different hotel. It’s a shame, as the experience didn’t live up to what we’d expected.
