I stay in a lot of hotels for business and manage my expectations accordingly as we don’t have a big budget. I actually found myself really liking this one. Its weird because it is like hotels used to be. The ones with a wooden desk, executive chair and space to put things. Its a great location near town and all things people need in Wrexham too. The breakfast is good expect maybe the scrambled eggs but universally only really fancy hotels make good ones. The restaurant at night is well priced and the food is good. My only gripe the slate (see oic) and the bucket of slaw - it is hard to eat with this. Use a normal plate. Oh and black pudding fritter shouldn’t be in sauce because it ruins the batter. On the two nights i stayed there were coach trips in so it was a bit busier at breakfast and dinner but even then it was not inconvenient. There was always good service and staff around. All in all this was pretty good and didn’t get a j5 purely because i’ve stayed in some pretty swanky places

I will start with the old adage of 'if I could give them zero stars, I would' because cliches are so, often, for a very valid reason. I found myself in that dive because of required medical treatment at Spire. That's the only reason I found myself there. Getting to the hotel if you are walking it's tricky so bear this in mind, it's not accessible friendly, there are no signs indicating where it is. The pavement around it is bashed so again, difficult to walk with suitcases. The entrance of the hotel is rather worn and broken so be careful if you are not steady on your feet. Upon arrival staff were almost bothered to have to check me in, it barely took a second, they didn't explain or confirmed any details with me (*this will becoming useful further on). No help at all with my bags, nothing. They hide behind that Trump wall that is the reception, already by design is hostile since you can see the top of their heads and their sniggering. Got to my room, good god, AHS vibes and not in the good way. To say the room is dated is an understatement, the TV is ancient and you get very few channels (think Colin Robinson in the sad hotel room in Atlantic City), but hold on, because the poor thing it's so old it's not connected to the internet so you can't cast from your own device, hope you enjoy the Big Bang Theory and Ramsey because that's most of what it's shown. The rooms are bare, guess it shows what kind of people they cater for. The bed is heinous, I am still trying to recover from it. Pillows? Thinner than a slice of toast. Duvet? Nah, they don't bother with that either. Because the bedroom is bare there is not a single ounce of useful information about said establishment, like say, hours the sauna is open from, times of the bar, etc, nothing, printing these would be too much to ask evidently. The bedroom as a whole was so depressing that you strive to be out as much as possible so I guess that's a huge motivation. I tried to order room service on the first night because I was exhausted from the travel and get this: YOU CAN'T ORDER FROM THE ROOM BECAUSE YOU HAVE TO GO DOWNSTAIRS TO PAY. Literally you missed the whole point of 'room service' when you can order a card reader from Ebay for £12 or so but no, instead redefine the term completly and sod the customer. The bathroom is a death trap, the tub is so high up that is a struggle, slippery like hell (mind you, they do provide a verruca mat for it), the taps are from the 90's and broken, so its either cold (even in summer) or boiling. No toothpaste, nothing but 4 containers of the same cheap wash that smells of nothing. The bar staff are their saving grace, they are all very polite and kind and the cleaning staff do really do a great job because it can't be easy to keep those 1990 rugs clean. The black and blue burger was disgusting and I was ill after eating that, tasted like what I imagine licking a goat tastes like (note that there's no goat's cheese or sheep meat in it), the meat was so dry and zero seasoning, the bun looked dry as in old and tasted of nothing, one tiny serving of coleslaw (tea spoon size) all yours for £14.50. The vending machine had a very limited selection and more often than not was out of order. The ice machine obviously doesn't work either, there are no water dispensers anywhere at all so tepid bathroom water, hmmmm, what a treat. Because I am ASD I made a mistake with my check out date so instead of calling me to see if everything was ok and why my stuff was still in the room, they decided not to call me at all, when I arrived from the hospital at 20:00hs the receptionists, that were there, didn't try to talk to me so I went, couldn't open it and had a panic attack. With what was left of my energy (I have HEds, ME, fibromyalgia, etc), they had placed all my belongings in a bin bag. Rather charming and in keeping with the rest of this experience. If they would have called me -because, let's be honest- who would leave thousands worth of clothes, jewellery, hairdryer etc unpacked and go away- if they would have called me I would have paid over the phone and done, but no, definitely treat people like scum. As a last and final thought, I found it tragically funny how when: 1) I called to book I was told I should hurry because there were almost fully booked 2) when I went online on booking.com there were rooms, many, way cheaper than what they offered on the phone 3) when they removed my stuff from my room it was because, again, they were 'fully booked' but funnily enough I was back into the same room 4) despite being allegedly perpetually fully booked the rooms are mostly empty Here I attach the charming replies of one of the employees. Finally, not only I wish I had stayed at the Cortez with what that woul've implied, so if you can, avoid this hotel at all costs, if you are disabled like me, avoid it, get a taxi ride with the local company Prestige and you will be better off.

Great hotel had a warm welcome the staff were immaculate, the room was very clean and comfortable. The only negative was unable to order room service, I tried the number provided but got the kitchen who said I should call reception with no answer I tried again to contact room service and got the kitchen again. In the end I gave up and ordered a take away, but this is not to distract from the hotel which overall was a very nice stay.
