Coconut Cay Resort & Marina

There’s plenty of other places in the area that you can go that are much friendlier and don’t look like they’re 80 years old from the outside. The front desk Sam she was incredibly rude , customer Service oriented. Told me I could pay $50 for early check-in after we’ve been driving all night from Saint Petersburg , when it’s not even sold out, there’s like eight cars in the parking lot. Because it’s hurricane season so there’s not a lot of people here that’s why the prices are so cheap on top of being very outdated. Then we had an emergency happen with our trip and I got the insurance so Hotels.com called requested the change in the itinerary and being the rude person that she is, which has no business as a front desk clerk nevertheless a Supervisor that is scary in itself. She denied the request and we haven’t even checked in yet. Stay away from this place. You will get ripped off. I promise you you’ve been warned. All the reviews that they have on there my guess are a lot of them are people they know.

STAY AWAY. Massive “surprise” fees, horrific smells, rude and incompetent staff, and a barely usable marina. The worst hotel experience I’ve had in the U.S. after 100 hotels nationwide. Before booking, I called about a room and dock slip. I was told a “Canal View” room, $120/night more, included a slip and trailer parking. I booked, called back, and was told everything was secured. The morning of my trip, I was told the policy had changed and it would now cost another $100/night. “May,” “Jocelyn,” and “Deonna” were rude, condescending, and blamed me for not knowing. I could no longer cancel. At reception I said “good afternoon” and Deonna replied, “Okay.” Jocelyn reduced the scam fee by 50%, which I reluctantly paid. Deonna then spent 20 minutes looking for my key. The room smelled like raw sewage. My friends’ room on the other side smelled the same. It was dirty, the sheets were stained, the TV didn’t work, and the sticky remote was disgusting. The walls were paper thin, we heard our neighbors, and loud roosters woke us at 5 AM every morning. The marina is terrible. They pack in as many boats as possible, the canal is extremely tight, and parking is difficult. Without 20+ years of boating experience, it would have been daunting. There are no cleats, only old pilings, and the dock is severely rotted and full of splinters that got into my hands and feet. This may be the worst-managed hotel in the Florida Keys. Save your time, money, and headache and stay elsewhere.

We booked a non-canal view room and that placed us in the motel unit just off the highway and road to the airport. Our room was at the corner nearest the airport road, but trees blocked the view of the road from the back. A sliding door opened to a lawn with a view of the pool and two Adirondack chairs, plus several roosters who seemed surprised to see us. They were quiet in the morning and went about their business while ignoring us. The room was large, clean and comfortable. No breakfast was offered, but we knew that and had stopped at a store for provisions. The front desk employees were all very nice and helpful. While there was noise from the road, it didn't impact our sleep, but it could bother others. We didn't explore any other places at the resort and marina. We were here for two nights, and it was perfectly fine.
