The Penrose Bed and Breakfast

quiet out of town bed and breakfast breakfasts were very good friendly employees. paper thin walls bug and animal paper under toilets to capture bugs and small lil animals and tortures them bed comfortable pillows nice will I go back. no.

This was our third time in Sedona and the previous visits we stayed at the Canyon Villa B&B, which was very nice. We saw the Penrose reviews on Trip Advisor and decided to give it a try. This place was absolutely fantastic. The property location is at the end of a residential neighborhood and very quiet with great views of Bell rock and Courthouse Butte in the Village of Oak Creek. Very close to the highway and hiking trailheads but also restaurants and shopping. We had a upper balcony room which had floor to ceiling windows and doors opening to the balcony. The room was very nice and the property is pristine. We had three different breakfasts while we were there which were equally fantastic. Snacks, beverages are always available. The welcome staff, cooks and servers were very friendly and helpful. We certainly will be returning to the Penrose during our next visit.

We were very excited about staying at the Penrose B&B, a five-star facility just outside Sedona. Unfortunately, our stay was significantly less ideal than expected. The B&B is located on a residential street, and the driveway is not well marked. Upon arrival, we were greeted by one of the owners and given a quick tour although some important information was omitted. The next morning, we arose to an absolutely 5-star view of the red rocks of Sedona. Breakfast was southwestern cuisine and was fine. By this time, we had noticed the bathroom sink was partially clogged and very slow to drain. We also noticed that when the toilet in the room above us was flushed, our toilet gurgled and sputtered. From past unpleasant experience, we knew this as a sign of a clogged septic system which would eventually back up into the lowest drain point. i.e. our toilet. Fortunately, we avoided that problem, but it is only a matter of time until another guest faces it. We were shown a small refrigerator where we could help ourselves to soft drinks, juice and yogurt. I tried the juice which was sour and had an expiration date two months prior to our visit. I skipped the yogurt which had expired a month earlier. I did use one of the small creamers which curdled in my coffee. The facility only provides housekeeping upon request which was fine with us. We did however need a new box of tissues which the staff member we asked could not locate. We assumed she would eventually take care of it before she left but she did not. I eventually located tissues in an open storage room we were made aware of on our third day. The room also had a refrigerator where we could keep personal items and an icemaker. Unfortunately, we were not informed of this upon check in. By the third day we had tired a bit of the southwestern breakfasts and only, later on, did we discover that, upon request, the cook would have provided a much simpler bacon and eggs fare. Again, nothing was mentioned when we checked in. The fourth morning we had pancakes, gluten free for me, which were quite good. There were other things such as a leaky shower door seal held together by tape, etc. but I think I’ve made my point. I believe the Penrose was once a five-star facility which has been neglected over time. Hopefully someday the B&B can once again live up to its previous status.
