Hotel Metropole

Good: Friendly staff, nice room with hardware floors and nice shower. Convenient location to all stores and shops. The bed was comfortable. Maid service was good. Bad: A/C went out three times, they replaced it. The trash can they give you is so little you cannot put much in it. The toilet paper is the thinnest I have ever had, a cheap Motel 6 probably has better. OK: The breakfast is ok, no eggs, bacon, sausage, but nice enough. The TV goes in and out because of the Island Internet which can be intermittent at times.

I picked the Metropole as an expensive option to avoid past bad experiences with hotels in Catalina. I got one of their "superior rooms". As we arrived early, the room was not available and we only saw it later in the day with little choice for another room. The room 316 was very clean and the cleaning folks very nice. However, despite the attempt to upgrade the experience with nice toiletries, some of the choices and the room design were very poor. Insufficient plugs, rusty closet rack with theft preventing hangers, Internet did not work, Tv reception was spotty. The key problem with the room was however that it had no privacy. The only window looked at the balcony of the hotel next door and with tem being at a higher level, unless if dressed the shades needed to be down, taking ALL light out of the room. Additionally, the wall air conditioning unit was feeble and cooled only the area in front of it. And the coup de grace was that if the window was open, even with the shades drawn, ALL noise from the road came straight at us. The warm nights were a torture. I would AVOID the hotel and definitely ask to see the room before committing. Avoid rooms on the side above the road, 3rd or 4th floor. They are superior only in name.

We stayed at the Hotel Metropol from July 24 to 26th. We were 6, 2 grandparents my son and his wife and our two granddaughters. We chose the Beach House. Is a beautiful apartment on a second floor with a huge living room and a dining table that sits 10, a full kitchen, and a big deck from which you can watch the concerts in the beach. The day of arrival it was wamr and there was a malfunction in the A/C. Maybe the previous occupants left the doors open while the A/c was on and the unit froze. Everybody was super helpful trying to solve this, besides bringing us many fnas, and calling an a/c guy that could not come until the next morning. Fortunately at 11 pm I realized the unit frost tht prevented functioning had melted and I turned on the a/c again iand it worked flawlesly ntil our departure. The manager Asia and other people involved were extremely helpful and spent several hours troubleshooting the problem. Except for that temporary glitch, we had an incredible time there, the acomodations were high class, and the location was centric. We came with the ferry and had to walk 5 blocks to the hotel, very convenient. Close to great restaurants, the beach, and nything you might need. Very highly recommended. If I need to return with my family again the Beach House would be the one I could rent.
