Big Bear Lakefront Lodge

BLOWN AWAY BY HOW BAD THIS PLACE WAS. I have never experienced a hotel this poorly maintained and this badly managed. Calling this place a “hotel” is honestly an insult to hotels that actually care about their guests. The property was filthy, neglected, unsafe, and clearly not properly maintained. The walkways had screws sticking out, creating an obvious tripping and injury hazard. There was no manager available on site, and the front desk appeared to be staffed by two very young employees who were left dealing with everything while management was nowhere to be found. Then we saw the room. ABSOLUTELY DISGUSTING. The bathroom had cracked tiles, filthy glass, and dirty towels. The floors were disgusting, with hair and dirt everywhere. The sheets were covered in stains, the mattress had stains, and the pillows were stained and looked like they had not been properly cleaned after previous guests. There were electrical outlets without covers and what appeared to be exposed live wires sticking out. How is this considered acceptable for a hotel room? This is an extremely serious safety concern, especially for families and children. There were paint chips everywhere, broken doors that would not close properly, and a broken sliding screen covered in spider webs. And to make things even worse, bugs were crawling across the floor. This wasn't a matter of the room being “a little dirty.” The room was completely unacceptable and unsafe. I immediately asked for another room. I was told there were no other rooms available because the rest were under construction. So apparently guests are expected to stay in disgusting and potentially unsafe rooms while the rest of the property is being worked on. I asked for clean sheets. Instead of having housekeeping come change the bedding like any normal hotel would, I was told I had to come to the front desk and pick them up myself. And when I got the replacement sheets, those were stained and dirty too. At this point, I asked repeatedly to speak with the manager. The manager would not come speak with me, would not properly respond, and apparently had no interest whatsoever in addressing the situation. Even the front-desk employees were complaining about the manager and described their own experiences dealing with her. My family and I finally had enough. WE LEFT. I couldn't even bring myself to stay in that room, and I certainly wasn't going to make my family sleep there. Then came the next nightmare: trying to get our money back. The booking agency attempted to help resolve the situation. I also had to fight the charge through my credit card company. Instead of taking responsibility and resolving a legitimate complaint, management apparently chose to make the entire situation even more difficult. The way this property handles its guests is completely unacceptable. This place needs a serious overhaul—from the rooms and electrical safety to the cleanliness, maintenance, and management. I am posting pictures because I want potential guests to SEE exactly what they could be walking into. Don't just take my word for it. Look at the pictures. 🚨 MY STRONGEST ADVICE: DO NOT BOOK THIS PROPERTY. 🚨 If you are traveling with your family, especially children, I would absolutely NOT recommend staying here. Dirty rooms. Stained bedding. Dirty bathrooms. Bugs. Spider webs. Broken doors. Exposed electrical wiring. Unsafe walkways. Poor maintenance. No manager available. Terrible customer service. And a refund dispute afterward. Save yourself the headache, the money, and the stress. BOOK SOMEWHERE ELSE. I would give this place ZERO STARS if that were an option. PLEASE STAY AWAY.

This was by far the worst experience I've ever had and I advise people to stay far away from this place. I booked one of the "suites" they had listed for a birthday weekend and made the 2 hour trip from Los Angeles only to be disappointed. The room looked nothing like the photos advertised,it was filthy as well with cobwebs all over the ceiling, hair and blood stains all over the bedding. The bathroom was a disaster as well with the shower covered in mildew and grime. When I went to speak to someone regarding the state of the room I was met with attitude by the manager of the property. She was screaming at me on the phone and refused to send anyone over to clean or offer anything for the major inconvenience. I was then told by an employee that this manager doesn't clean any of the rooms and that the property is infested with bed bugs and she is fully aware of these issues and doesn't care. I had to sit on a chat with customer service for about 2 hours to try and get a refund as the manager was trying to deny a refund to me. It ruined the entire trip and I'll be making sure to leave this review anywhere I can so that people don't make the mistake of wasting your time and money on this dump.

As of June 2026, this picture of this place doesn't reflect it's true condition. It's somewhat rundown and needs updating. The main door hardware is interior grade and didn't feel very secure. While the room is larger than normal, it has an odd layout. The 32" TV is more than 15' from the beds, like you need binoculars to view it. On the bath, the vanity was loose from the wall and had no hot water. The shower tile had more grout repairs than original grout. And the single light fixture left both the mirror and shower dark.
