While the hotel on the outside seems lovely and quaint it needs a lot of work. It is old and in disrepair. Street noise is bad. Other reviews have discussed this so I will go right to my immediate issues. The first room we got was lovely but the refrigerator was not working. I called the front desk and they said someone would come to take care of it. While we were waiting for 45 minutes, the ice machine outside our door was constantly in use, right by the bed. And above us someone was stomping around so much the room shook. At that point I wanted to switch rooms. I requested a new room, we brought all our stuff over to a much lesser room but no one above us at least. Guess what? This fridge completely iced over, not working either. I went downstairs, told the front desk that while I appreciated the room switch this fridge didn’t work either and could they fix it asap as it’s now been an hour and a half and we would like to relax. They said they would do their best. No real apology for our trouble. Or that both fridges not working, or an inferior room. They have now replaced the fridge. But unfortunately our evening is not what we hoped for. And as other guests stated $25 for parking in their garage is ridiculous. I paid it as I don’t want park on the street. But ridiculous. Not happy.

When looking for a centrally located affordable option in Monterey, this place seemed the best option. It was easy to find and pull off the main street into the underground parking, and we were able to get a space easily when checking in (parking on site was one of our 'must haves'). The hotel is quite large, but spread around the grounds a bit, so there are a few options when deciding where you want to be (street-facing or tucked back a bit). The check-in was easy, with a polite young girl on the desk, and we found our room easily. It's got that beautiful Spanish hacienda vibe, and the grounds were well kept with a fountain courtyard right outside our room. Our room was large (a Premier Junior Suite) with a comfy living area, a little dining area, 2 lovely comfy beds and a little balcony overlooking one of the courtyards on site. It was clean and there was a fireplace that we didn't need to use, and the only thing that confused me at first was the lack of any AC. I know the central coastal/NorCal areas don't always need AC at some times in the year, but it was quite warm when we stayed (late September) and this felt like a bit lacking in a nice hotel like this. I called the desk and to their credit they arranged for a large fan to be brought up, which arrived quickly and did the job. Location wise, it's perfect for walking to Fisherman's Wharf, and also to the surrounding downtown area, including Alvarado St where we found a good selection of places to eat and drink. Although if you have any major mobility issues, bear in mind it's a bit of a hill to get back up to Pacific St from Alvarado. All in all, I'd definitely stay here again when in Monterey, as was a pleasant experience.

You can tell that Hotel Pacific was probably beautiful back in the day. However, in April 2026, it is in disrepair. The tile flooring in common areas is cracking apart, and the wood staircases and balconies are rotting. Many of the hallways and walkways aren’t properly lit at night. Road noise at night is so extreme that it is difficult to fall asleep. While parking for hotel guest is offered, it is outrageously priced, and the parking garage is narrow and difficult to navigate. Our biggest complaint, however, is the hotel’s policy on late checkout. We requested a late check out at 4pm and were told it would be $100. We agreed. Later, we got a call from the front desk that we could NOT check out at 4pm. Our new options were to check out at 2pm for an additional $50 or pay for the room for another night, at a discounted rate of $179. During the course of this conversation, they revealed that they had five rooms available for that additional night. While they claimed that they needed us to check out by 4:00 PM due to the housekeeping staff leaving at that time, it was obvious that the housekeeping staff would not need to be cleaning our room, as it was still available for the additional night (a Sunday). It is clear that this hotel is far more concerned about squeezing every additional dollar out of its guests rather than meeting the needs of their guests. Obviously, we will not be returning to Hotel Pacific during future stays in Monterey. They clearly are not concerned about providing good customer service and keeping their guests safe.
