I booked Leucadia Beach Inn for a last minute long weekend trip and it was a comfortable and convenient place to stay. The exterior of the hotel is really cute and I liked the vintage decor. I was in Room 1 in the inner courtyard closer to the street and I didn't have any issues with street or train noise between 10pm-7am. The bed was exceptionally comfortable. The location is fantastic. At least 5 great breakfast spots and lots of good restaurants within walking distance. Beacon's Beach is an easy walk away and absolutely gorgeous. There's also a little strip of cool shops a few blocks away. It was an easy and scenic drive to Carlsbad. The bathroom could definitely use some updating. The shower is small with only one tiny ledge to put soap, etc. I'm 5' 8" and had to duck to wash my hair. The shower and sink have good pressure, and the numerous hooks for towels and pristine, fluffy towels were great. The office is open from 9am-5pm, so be sure to email ahead if you need to check in later. The manager was very responsive on email, and there's a drop box if you need to check out early.

Well, I was going to give them 4 stars (because of it being such a cute 1920’s historic motor court), until I woke up after the first night to a large sewer roach in the shower. Because I have a strong aversion to bugs of any kind, I don’t believe I’d be able to stay here again. There were also small black ants crawling all over the tiny kitchen counter. (See pictures for both). I was advised upon check in to not leave anything out, because ants would come. I didn’t leave anything out, but the ants came anyway. The best part about this property is the location, close to Grand View beach in Leucadia. The town is expensive, so even a minimal motel like this is going to cost an average of $190 a night in the high season. There’s a 3% surcharge if you pay with a credit card. I’m giving an honest review. The soft bed, the small room, the toxic (ammonia smelling) chemicals, when coupled with a floor that reminded me of McDonald’s. This just wasn’t my vibe, and the high window made me feel very claustrophobic. No breakfast included. No water cooler. Slow WiFi, but you’re paying for the location and the historical charm. It’s a Perfect motel for history buffs and surfers.
