Oceano Hotel and Spa

My wife and I have been frequent guests at this hotel, but our recent stay was a complete nightmare. We were meeting with friends for a stay and play golf, and they informed us that we had to pay in advance for the golf passes for both courses. I had paid $1586 three weeks in advance. On Tuesday, September 15th, we arrived at the hotel at 10 am and went to the front desk. We were greeted by Jessica, who seemed lost and clueless about her duties. She asked for a card, which is standard practice for hotels, but instead of reimbursing us, she charged us the full amount. Jessica promised to reimburse us, but she couldn’t provide us with a receipt. This is unacceptable, and we should have been reimbursed immediately. To make matters worse, we discovered that the bar was open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, but we had no idea about it. We had been staying at the hotel for three weeks and had never noticed the bar. Before we checked out, I went to the front desk again and asked Jessica why we couldn’t just get a refund for the card. She refused to do so and took 20 minutes to explain her position. We will never return to this hotel and will strongly advise others to avoid it. I will also contact all review platforms where we can post a review and will fight for a full reimbursement. Finally, I want to address the issue of Jessica. She needs to be removed from the front desk immediately.

Half Moon Bay and the Oceano Hotel reminded me (an East Coaster) of coastal Massachusetts -- in a good way! The hotel is located across from the bay and there is a distinct fishing town vibe here. The room was very large and comfortable and had a lot of homey touches. My room was on the first floor and faced the bay, but there was some construction going on so my view was partially obscured by large vehicles. This was not a problem at all, since we went out exploring the town up close and found it very appealing. There were people fishing from the pier across the street and fishing boats were coming in with their catch (king salmon when we were there). Parking was ample and free. Restaurants were within walking distance. If I lived in San Francisco, I think this would be my go-to for a very lovely weekend away.

Hotel in its original state, old-fashioned rooms but which have character. The hotel deserves to be renovated from top to bottom. Welcoming staff. Soft bedding. It is worth a 3* but no more.
