My sister and I stayed at Sonesta Los Angeles Airport for 3 nights, and our experience on the last day was heartbreaking and unacceptable.
After checking out, we were quietly sitting in the lobby waiting for our ride to the airport. During our stay, we had seen many other guests waiting in the same lobby area without being questioned or bothered. However, a staff member named Samuel approached only us aggressively, asking “what’s going on” and demanding that we leave immediately. He spoke to us with disrespect, hostility, and inappropriate language that made us feel completely humiliated.
As two young Black women, it was impossible for us not to feel that we were being racially targeted. The way we were treated compared to other guests made the situation feel deeply racist, discriminatory, and degrading.
We paid to stay at this hotel for multiple nights and expected to be treated with the same respect and dignity as every other guest. Instead, we left feeling embarrassed, hurt, and emotionally shaken right before going to the airport.
This experience completely ruined our stay, and because of the way we were treated, we will never return to this hotel again. No guest should ever be made to feel unwelcome or discriminated against because of the color of their skin. I truly hope management takes this seriously and addresses this behavior immediately.

I stayed at the Sonesta Los Angeles Airport twice, once in March 2026 at the start of my trip with a day stay and then an overnight stay; and then again a day stay at the end of my trip before my flight back to Australia.
This hotel is without doubt, in my humble opinion, the best airport hotel I've ever stayed in - and I've stayed in a lot of airport hotels all over the world, from budget to mid-range to luxury.
This hotel is extremely reasonably priced compared with, in my view, many other airport hotels which generally seem to "get away" with charging a lot of money relative to non-airport hotels, for the supposed "privilege" of being able to stay near the airport.
This hotel's rate was so relatively reasonable that when I booked I had little expectations that the hotel would be anything special despite good reviews.
I was wrong. It was excellent.
The staff here, for example were really helpful and friendly and wholeheartedly welcoming (except one of the free shuttle bus drivers, but it was probably a language barrier issue as they spoke little English). Otherwise I cannot fault the friendly and helpful customer service, from everyone at the front desk, to the servers in the restaurant, the people working in the Cafe, the Concierge desk, maintenance, and cleaning staff.
The rooms were spacious, tasteful, and the beds very comfortable.
On my second stay I was given a lovely corner room (maybe as a repeat customer?) which was really quiet and relaxing, and had a great view of one of the runways so I could watch the planes, (which I always find interesting).
I didn't eat breakfast here so cannot comment on that, but I did eat in the restaurant during the day and in the evening, and the service and the food was extremely good.
I also bought food and snacks from the Cafe-also very good indeed.
The "day stay" feature offered by this hotel (where you can book a day or just blocks of time, if you don't need an overnight stay, is a really useful option. You get use of a bedroom and get access to most, if not all of the hotel's facilities. I booked through the "Dayuse" website but you may be able to do this directly with the hotel and possibly get a better rate.
The hotel has what looked like an appealing swimming pool from the photos I saw on its website but it was closed for renovations during my stay. I believe the hotel also has a good gym as I overheard someone talking about it, but I did not use it.
There is a free shuttle bus to/from the airport which is about 10 minutes' away, depending on traffic and on which terminal. At peak times allow half an hour, maybe more because LAX can get jammed with traffic including between terminals. The hotel Concierge and Reception staff were nost helpful with suggestions about traffic conditions and congestion at the airport affecting the shuttle.
I would, without hesitation, recommend this hotel and look forward to staying again next time I visit the fabulous USA.
