HUMMINGBIRD INN

I recently stayed at the hummingbird Inn and was shocked at their horrible customer service. I simply requested early check-in, 1 PM instead of 3 PM and the girl at the front desk made zero effort to accommodate that never asked housekeeping to clean my room and just kept repeating herself saying we can’t guarantee early check-in. I never asked for a guarantee, I just asked for an attempt. Hours later when I arrived at 1:15 PM, the room was not ready and she admitted she had never made a request for it too be cleaned. This was surprising since this is not an unusual request at a hotel and she said all of this with a Taking a back look on her face like she’d never heard anyone make such crazy request!! she then proceeded to give me a big story about the housekeeping supervisor was at lunch and she had to wait for him to return, even though there were multiple other housekeepers on site. It was like she was playing a game at this point. I always remained polite and calm, although I was surprised and understandably put out. Most shockingly when I raised my concerns to their management office, I got an indignant response that I too had behaved improperly and had created an unpleasant work environment for their employees!!! they also went back five years to stay I had at one of their other properties when they would not grant us late checkout and my dad was not happy about that as he is slow and elderly, and they had the nerve to say these two instances five years apart showed that I had a history of being difficult and unpleasant to their employees!! really?? I was simply unhappy that my simple request had been made into a big issue and never made any attempt whatsoever to grant my very reasonable request of checking in two hours early. They also admitted that I was the only one on property requesting early check-in, which made it that much more crazy.! They have without a doubt lost my business for life and if you do stay here, be forewarned!!! don’t expect accommodating hospitality, and if you complain about anything be prepared to be accused yourself!!

This would be my favorite hotel in Ojai if I wasn't so dang sensitive to sounds. It is right on the main road and across the street from a fire station; unpredictable traffic noises. The building structure is Travelodge (two floors); the color scheme is warm terracotta/dusty sage/cream; the decor is clean lines and warm simplicity. There's a lot of tile (floors and counters), and I love tile but any rolling wheel noise (roller bags, cleaning carts, vacuum cleaners) is amplified and unavoidable. There's a cute wooden "Do Not Disturb" sign to hang on the door handle but these clack against the doors every time someone opens one, no matter how careful you are. The wood doors themselves can get noisy when they swell up during rainy times. I appreciate the lack of clutter in the rooms but there's also not much space to spread your out stuff. I kept bonking my head on the heavy lamps hanging on either side of the bed (my only gripe with the room design). Otherwise, this hotel great for my budget and my aesthetic. The staff are wonderful. No in-room coffee but there is, surprisingly, a hot water kettle (bring your own tea). Free Canyon Coffee and tea bags in the lobby in the mornings, which you can drink in the cozy living room as you page through the local newspaper (provided). There is a giant basket of snacks for purchase in each room (chips, drinks, tea bags, etc) and high end CBD goodies/body care products in the lobby ($72 for a jar of incredible herbal balm). There are outlets galore and an outdoor pool heated to 85 F. Excellent restaurants (Rotie, Dutchess) within walking distance. A refill store with more high-end toiletries and some very fair-priced vintage items just a short walk away. Small weekly farmers market.

So happy with our stay here, and I'd say I am pretty picky. First we stayed on the second floor and our room was lovely. The beds were very comfortable and the linens were of good quality. The room was clean and we had a fridge and a microwave. I liked that we were not in the middle of town but walked in out frequently. The pool was nice and the lounge chairs very comfortable. The staff was friendly and helpful. I was really pleased overall and would come back again.
