Deer Haven Inn

I have a reservation for two days starting tomorrow and they called me at 5:30 pm to let me know that my reservation was canceled because the room was ruined by the person before me and they wouldn’t have a room ready. Fair enough, things happen. However, the staff literally did not care. They basically told me, too bad so sad, we have nothing to offer you, here are some places you might be able to get a spot at. Personally, if I were in the HOSPITALITY BUSINESS, I probably would have at least called around to get some options first or offered to help book somewhere else. I’m from PG, I know you all know each other. You also could have offered to book us somewhere else. But you all just don’t care that you ruined my kids’ vacation. Very hard to find a room last minute with two beds. Not cool at all. Very disappointed.

Location was fantastic, easy walk through Asilomar to the beach and a short drive into town for dinner. Room was very clean and had sheer curtains so we got daytime privacy without having to draw heavy curtains and turn on lights. The main drawback was the lack of strong fan or a/c. I generally dislike a/c but the only fan was a ceiling 'propeller' fan that did not do much. So the room got quite hot at night, even though it was not hot outside. Opening the window wasn't an option because the screen was easily popped open and without a way to brace the window halfway shut, anyone could have crawled in. That's the main issue. If they add a real fan or secure the windows to open safely, it would be great. But those issues mean I won't go back.

The room by the stairs is sooo noisy due to both the stairs creaking and people thundering up down them, and the fact that you can hear everything from the room above. I’m not sure if other rooms are as bad. Also the door to the bathroom locks you in by sliding off the track. Very scary. The “fireplace” is really bad with a tiny flame and a gas odor. The bed is very uncomfortable. Pros are it’s close to Asilomar.
