The Pali Hotel, nestled in the heart of San Diego’s gaslamp District, offers a delightful stay for those seeking a short getaway. However, it’s essential to be mindful of the hotel’s nightlife, which can extend late into the night, making it less suitable for light sleepers. Built in 1912, the hotel exudes charm with its vintage elevators, which can be a bit challenging to navigate with luggage or a beverage in hand. To avoid the elevator, I recommend staying on the lower floors, like the third, where you can take the stairs. While one of the elevators was out of service during my stay, the lobby’s captivating ambiance and exquisite decor provided a pleasant atmosphere. The Diptyque room spray and products throughout the hotel create an inviting scent, reminiscent of the French candle, perfume, and lotion company known for its high-end and luxurious fragrances. However, there were a few drawbacks. My bed’s mattress was lumpy, with one side worn and the other unused, which felt peculiar. The shower was also small and narrow, so be prepared if you’re not petite. On the positive side, the Diptyque shampoo, conditioner, and shower gel were a luxurious addition to the shower experience. The rooftop bar and lounge on the 11th floor offer a lovely spot to relax, although the steep set of stairs can be challenging for older guests. The hotel’s restaurant serves delicious food, strong coffee, and friendly staff. Overall, my stay was enjoyable, but I can only give it a four-star review due to the lumpy bed, small shower, and noise level. Despite these minor issues, the Pali Hotel is a lovely place to stay, especially if you appreciate its vintage charm and the soothing color green that permeates the lobby and throughout the hotel.

Run away!!!! The website is misleading with decor redone from an old hotel and above all infernal noise at night. The elevator was broken and we were on the eighth floor!!! With our luggage 😡 The rooms have no windows, they made us pay for two nights for the deposit every day, never seen before 🤮

This is an old downtown San Diego building that has been renovated, and turned into a hotel. If you want to discover downtown San Diego, this is a great location, right in the middle of Gaslamp district, walking distance to many things, and very close to the airport as well. The renovation and design is ...cute, if a Parisian hotel and a Miami boutique hotel had baby! The staff were friendly and helpful, felt welcoming, but also seemed a bit shorthanded. I was there for about 2 weeks, and overall i enjoyed my stay. The elevator is the original elevator of the building, which was the fastest elevator at the time - I found it to be cute. But, if you are in a rush, or have luggage with you - be careful with your fingers with the heavy, metal, sliding door. Getting two pieces of luggage in could be tricky, because they did not have a bell man on staff. The positives of the hotel for me: they have a French bistro downstairs where the food and wine was good, and the prices were fair for downtown San Diego, they also have room service but the problem with room service was that.... in the room there really was not a place to sit and eat. Which brings me to the room, the room was on the smaller side, but again....cute. Except the biggest negative for me: the carpet in the room and hotel looked liked it had not been changed with the renovation - which is shocking to me - because it was terrible! I mean that carpet was just really really old and beat up, and felt dirty. Obviously I was in slippers when in the room, but I was petrified of my feet touching the ground, I do not understand how they spent all that time and money to renovate, and left what looked like 70 year old dirty carpet in. The other negative in the room design was that the console where the coffee maker was, and the only surface you had to put food, or make your coffee, or where the snacks were.... was also the only place you could hang your clothes. Which felt not very clean. The railing to hang your clothes was on top of all that.... and hanging clothes you just wore outside, on top of the only surface you can make your tea of coffee on, or put a plate of food was weird. I have never had that experience in my travels... Another positive of the hotel: they have a rooftop (it is advertised as a rooftop bar) however, during my stay the bar part was closed, but they did allow you to take drinks and food up yourself from the restaurant downstairs. I wish they did provide the service of bringing that up themselves, but they did not. We did take drinks up with a couple of friends who came to visit a couple of times, and the views of downtown were great. But, taking food up yourself felt weird, so I did not do that. Specially with that elevator. I personally love rooftop bars and restaurants and that was one of the things that made me book this place.... so, it was disappointing that it was not functioning as advertised, and they did not provide service there. Housekeeping did a good job and the bathroom and towels were clean, the sheets and the bed were clean... and something that is always a positive for me in hotel rooms is that you could crack the window open, for a little air circulation.
