Cartwright Union Square

Great location for public transportation and ride share, its close to popular shopping, Union Square, Cable Cars and a breakfast dinner on the corner! The desk staff can help with questions about the area and rooms. I will stay here again. 👍 Oh and it’s Best Western so the quality is consistent and reliable. Enjoy!

Having stayed just last night at the Cartwright Hotel, I felt compelled to leave a review. I would title my stay, "Weed and Febreeze". As I exited the elevator to the second floor (where my room was located) I was immediately hit with a strong deodorizer smell in the hallway. It was really strong. On top of that, a very hefty marijuana smell was coming from more than one room on my floor. In fact, it continued all evening. It made for a terrible stay. Because the hallways are so narrow, you can hear and smell everything down the whole corridor. The bathroom was so small in my room that I could easily reach the sink from sitting on the toilet. I am not a big lady, 5'7" and 130 pounds. I say that because I was extremely claustrophobic in my room. I had to open the windows just to feel like I was connected to the outside world. The entire experience was one of the worst nights I have ever experienced in all my years traveling. The staff cleaning the rooms was walking up and down the hallway with large black plastic bags to clean each room vs. a small rolling cart like I have experienced in every other hotel. This place was really "cheap" in ambiance. I grew up in the Bay Area so I am not new to the diverse population in and around the city. However, this hotel is really in the center of a rough street. Please do not allow your daughters to stay here alone with friends. In fact, as I was walking to the garage to pick up my car, a young woman was walking right behind me. She was telling her mom that she also had a terrible stay and felt afraid. If you are a bigger person or a tall man, you will feel crowded here. If you dislike the strong smell of marijuana, do not pick this place. I realize we all have choices but the Cartwright Hotel will never be one of them for me. The photos make the hotel look spacious and roomy but beware, you can touch both walls going down the hallway if you stretch your arms out beside you. None of these issues may bother you but if they do... look somewhere else.

Great visit, service, and very clean. Felt safe and rested. Near shops. Would stay again.
