The proprietor of this hotel European hostels San Francisco is a THIEF! He will take your money through a booking service then when you arrive he will find any reason to deny you access he's likely overbooked the rooms then when you attempt to get a refund through the booking service he lies saying you and the booking service is typically take the hotel side I never got my money back after he refused my service he was extremely mean too the worst of the worst I know the price is low but even if he lets you stay the $20 deposit you leave you never get back words cannot describe the evil in this book proprietors mind.

Disclaimer: I was here August 2016 and looks like they have renovated since then. I had no complaints. I spent 70/night for my own room and just communal bathrooms, which I never ran into anyone. I never felt like it was dirty...just a place to crash and clean myself up before exploring and the price was great. I always felt safe and never had issues walking around. (probably has changed since the world decided to go batshit) The security in letting you in at night was pretty tight and watchful.

Upon arrival, the whole inside of the building had plastic sheeting up, the reception stating that it was undergoing a huge renovation. The rooms are very basic with no hanging space, and the shared bathroom was awful, holes in the door, hadn't been cleaned, and my friend walked back to the bedroom with a huge hair ball stuck to his foot. It turns out 6th Street is a pretty bad area of San Fran, and our taxi driver the following day said you should be warned about staying in this area when you book as it is so bad.
