Gateway Inn

DO NOT STAY HERE UNLESS IT IS A LAST RESORT. As in all of your relatives have died suddenly, last resort! Not friendly, the first impression is everything. If I am paying you almost half a thousand dollars to stay the weekend at your establishment, I expect you to approach me as a human being (especially if you knew exactly who we were because we've contacted you on multiple occasions prior) Pro: a place to lay your head Con: 1) NO AIR CONDITIONING (all we had were three windows and we kept one slightly closed because it was on the fire escape) It was so hot in the room the homeless outside looked more comfortable 2) The cable is limited-basic only 3) Not nice to look at, because there was no a/c we had to let the city smell into the room Overall, i would give this place a "0" (not a negative but simply a "0").

Its a notch above a hostel where you have your own queen bed room, bath, small fridge and microwave. It is agreeably very old- 1960s style including the 'elevator' and so old stains dont lift if you get what I mean. Room service available on request. Can be noisy as it overlooks O'farell street. Price wise it equates the quality you get. Its in union square so close to the bustle etx.

We came here after visiting Vegas & Yosemite and were expecting good things considering the room rate was more than double that of the hotels in either of those. Boy, were we in for a surprise. The place is so dreadfully dated and the upkeep is seemingly non-existent. After braving the death trap that passes itself off as an elevator, we entered our room to discover the previous occupants' dirty towels on the bathroom floor. The shower was rusty, filthy and produced nothing more than a trickle of either ice cold or scalding hot water, there were cracks in the walls and paintwork, the curtains are so badly moth eaten as to be practically transparent, the bed has ACTUAL MOULD growing in the corners, under the bed and behind/underneath the furniture appeared to have never been cleaned and the windows are so thin that you could hear every word of every conversation on the very busy street outside. The electrics would blow if you used more than one appliance at a time. I could go on but I'm done wasting time and energy on this. Location is ok, if unsavoury. All in all, they need to either drastically reduce their prices or vastly refurbish their hotel. Over to you, Gateway.
