I've staying at the Red Victorian many times since 1997 - it's fantastic through back. Reviewers such "Fiona O" need to stay in a hermetically sealed Travel lodge - not a heritage hotel like this. All the red arrows - Her review is a disgrace - -the Red Vic is not!

During our visit in the fine Haight-Ashbury district, we saw the colourful building of the Red Victorian Bed and Breakfast, which is famous its beautifully themed rooms. Close to Red Victorian Bed and Breakfast, there were also fine colourful murals in Haight street!

Having read the reviews and looked at all the pics on TripAdvisor I knew this would be a bit of a magical, iconic place to stay and it didn't disappoint - especially for the price. Felt like exactly what I imagined it would feel like to stay on Haight. We loved staying here. The location is ideal. We managed to get to most of the city really easily from here. Haight St felt like it had multiple personalities depending on the time of day/ night - all of them very interesting. We loved coming back here after a full day exploring the city but also in the morning it was a delight to go out and grab breakfast. Really interesting and edgy. We sat in the lounge area one day and marvelled at all the incredible pieces of art and eclectic objects and I cannot tell you how many people looked in through the windows and tried to get inside.. because, well it just looks like a great place to be (and it IS)! There is an excellent check in and out policy- whereby it's very simple - you are given door codes for main door and bedrooms - didn't really see a soul, but got the impression that if you were to stick around long enough and be a bit more sociable (than us) you would meet some kind and interesting folk. The only time it got a bit hairy was when the main gate hadn't been closed properly and other people had got in who perhaps weren't meant to be there and were wandering the corridors (possibly lost). So maybe be aware the security isn't the best. Also - security wise it might have been good to have a safe of sorts to put your valuables in. The room was light and spacious - we stayed in Gigi's room and the bed was extremely comfortable and the bath/ shower was great. This room really didn't have that much outside noise at all. The cleanliness of the room was only slightly questionable as the ceiling fans were thick with dust - but other than that the bathroom was perfect and bed etc was great! That really was only a minor gripe. I think that this place may not be for everyone - but if you are a bit of a traveller and have a curious, open mind you will lap it up! Its something different and a million light years away from the offerings in the more touristy areas we saw (for us a good thing). Don't expect a TV etc.. instead maybe go out and enjoy yourself! Great place to stay - a real one off. It would be sad if you didn't experience it. Highly recommended.
