Montecito Sequoia Lodge

We booked our last night in Sequoia National Park at the Montecito Lodge because we wanted to stay in the park. I cannot emphasized enough the importance of staying inside national parks to minimize driving and save time. We were a bit surprised by the property when we arrived. There is a lodge, but also cabins, a lake with canoes and kayaks, a pool, a ping pong table, archery targets and a fire pit. It was very much like going to camp. When you read “all inclusive” think dining hall with trays where you all eat together. It was kind of nice to not have to look for a restaurant in the park where the prices are high and the choices are few. Not only did they feed us great meals, we had access to the kitchen 24/7 for snacks and beverages. The staff went out of their way to make us comfortable. Our room was clean and well stocked with towels, shampoo and soap. The best part was the fabulous deck where star gazing in the dark skies was amazing! The only down side was the 15 minute detour on mostly gravel roads to get there. There was a bridge being repaired.

This is a place for families with children who need lots of activities in their vacation.. If you are a couple seeking just a place to stay then Montecito is WAY overpriced. Ask for first floor room. Stairs are not for older people. Temporary Road into lodge is a BUMPY ride. Supposedly better road in will open next year after a bridge is replaced.

Montecito Sequoia Lodge was such a pleasant experience for my family of four (3yo and 1yo). We stayed in the cabins which were clean, cozy, and spacious. We loved the quality and logistical ease of mealtimes. The lodge itself is perfectly situated for exploring both NPs. We highly recommend for your next adventure!
