Be advised that the hotel restaurant is problematic. We ordered two basic martinis, no exotic gin. They were over $21 each before tax. I have paid less in NYC with a premium gin. When are mains came after a wait of 1 hour 15 minutes, everything on both our plates was stone cold and not edible. The hotel rooms were satisfactory - think holiday Inn. Unfortunately, you do not have many options. Bring your own food!

Outdated cabins, towels were thread bare, lovely balcony with amazing view nice table on balcony with no chairs, what's the point of that? Female staff member at check in was most unpleasant. We ate in Cortez prior to arriving as had read that the food was poor quality, so cannot comment on the dining. In my opinion I wish we had driven straight to Durango for our overnight stay where we could have stayed in a better quality hotel, better towels and complimentary breakfast.

This is our second stay at Far View Lodge, it has been amazing both times. If you are looking to eat dinner at the lodge as you are about 20-30 mins to the bottom of the mountain, I would recommend eating upstairs at the Mesa Verde lounge area instead of the dining room. The menu at the dining room was overpriced but the views on the deck outside in the lounge were amazing and the food prices were a lot better and the food was very good. The rooms both times have been very clean and nice, beds were good to sleep in and the pillows are very nice too. We got to see one wild horse while we were there.
