The Lodge at Tamarron

All that glitters is not gold. Do not trust the photos of this place. The surrounding landscape is beautiful, but the property itself is not what it appears to be online. The lower rates make sense once you arrive — the place feels very old, likely from the 1970s, with surface-level remodeling that does not fix the underlying condition. The hallways smelled like cigarette smoke, and the room smelled like heavy air freshener trying to cover up an old smoking smell. I have asthma, and once I realized the condition of the property, I knew I could not safely stay there with my family. On top of that, the bedding did not feel clean, and there was hair on the towels. I contacted First Chair Destinations, the company managing the property, and explained that I could not stay there due to my asthma and the condition of the room. I requested a refund so I could book somewhere else for my family. After hours of back and forth with “managers” who apparently had no authority to actually resolve the issue, I was told they would only refund the cleaning fee. That is unacceptable. If a room smells like smoke, appears poorly cleaned, and is not safe for someone with asthma, a cleaning fee refund does not solve the problem. I would not recommend staying here unless you are comfortable with an older property that may not match the online photos.

While this condo was otherwise quite a nice place to stay, when we were packing up to go on a hike around 8am someone in the parking lot broke into our car and grabbed whatever they could, including wallets. Unfortunately, the Tamarron front desk provided no help at all. There are no security cameras and no security team. The area is quite beautiful but clearly not safe from crime and made us paranoid about being around the resort for the rest of the experience. This really ruined what was otherwise a nice trip to an incredible part of Colorado.

We stayed in early May so next time we will go a bit later. We booked our condo thru VRBO and it was great. We were in #754. View was perfect and it was very well supplied. Everything looked to be redone recently. They count this as a two bedroom but really the second room is off the master and just has bunk beds and the bathroom is the same one the Master Bedroom uses. Might work for kids but would not work for another couple. Since it was only us it was fine. Neighbors were friendly too....she told us many hikes and places to eat. We did golf only once since it was so cool, no problem getting in since no one was around but the price of $140.00 per round seemed a little high in what I would call low season...but the course was in great shape.
