The Pelican Key Largo Cottages

I would NEVER recommend Pelican Key Largo Cottage to anyone. Last year, on December 26th, my husband, our emotional support dog, and I were driving down to Key West. We had booked this property through Booking.com under the impression that dogs were allowed. However, just minutes before arriving—after nearly 3 hours of driving—we received a message stating that they only accepted service dogs. We arrived at around 9:00 PM, exhausted and facing a peak holiday night when finding alternative lodging is nearly impossible. We explained our situation at the front desk, asking politely if we could stay for just one night. Honestly, what practical difference does it make whether a dog is a service animal or an emotional support animal when a family arrives late at night during a holiday, simply needing a place to sleep before continuing their journey? Unfortunately, the staff showed absolutely zero empathy or human kindness. To make matters worse, when we called Booking.com to cancel, the hotel flatly refused to approve the cancellation or issue even a partial refund. They kept our money despite turning us away. Because of their rigid refusal to help, we had to spend hours searching for another hotel late at night and pay double the price for a last-minute room. The financial hit completely ruined our holiday, and we had to end our trip and return home early. If you value basic customer service, flexibility, and empathy, look elsewhere. This place cares nothing about its guests.

We had booked one night for 4 adults; super small room next to the parking lot and the main road. We paid a supplement to have a decent room with a sea view, that was okay, but the A/C was super noisy and we slept on the sofa in the other room, which was really super uncomfortable. On the other hand, the bed in the large room was impeccable. So even for one night, frankly, the spot is average.

We stayed in room 210 that was right on the beach. It was the biggest room on the resort with 2 room with queen beds and a Murphy bed in the living room. It had a full kitchen as well. The place is absolutely beautiful and we couldn’t have asked for anything more. The feel is definitely a beach cottage vacation rental. It’s not perfect but we loved it and would take this place over a fancy hotel anytime. It really was like we had our own place on the beach. The beach is a “shared” beach with the other guests of the resort but it was never too busy at all. We used the kayaks a couple times and saw manatees and even a nerf shark. The girls at the front desk were extremely accommodating and friendly. We had one issue with a guest upstairs once and they took care of it immediately. We made friends with the local iguana outside our room that lives on the beach and had him around the entire time with no issues. It’s a great place to snorkel and fish as well which we did. We really can’t say enough about this place. We will definitely be back next year.
