I wouldn't give this place any stars at all. I won't s go here the management is really nasty and they say one thing and they do another. Horrible place to be not a good area to be in no store near by have to drive or take a bus little bit.

I was very disappointed in my stay at the 1876 Heritage Inn. There were cockroaches in the bathroom which retreated into the floor, and cockroaches in the sleeping area. The pillows were quite old and lumpy. The worst was the cigarette smell which wafted in the room from the outside. The porch which wraps around the building is dotted with chairs & tables. Each table has an ash tray which is full of cigarettes. There appear to be people who live there, and they smoke quite a lot. The interior of the room was painted and decorated quite nicely, however the floorboards under the air conditioner were water-damaged. The Inn is elevated, so you walk up steps or a ramp to the first floor. Both the steps and the ramp are badly in need of refinishing and repainting. I was escorted to my room by the manager after checking in. I realized then I really didn't want to bring much into the room, as it had an off scent. Their website states they clean the rooms, but "time has its own fragrance". I've been in buildings much older than this one, & experienced the fragrance of time in a well-maintained historic building. This was not it. I realized after I left the next morning that the room smelled of cigarettes. Once I returned home, I had to wash everything I brought into the room, including my purse. I use a c-pap, and had to change to a new hose as soon as I got home. If you, like me, are a non-smoker, do not stay here. If you are concerned about bringing cockroaches home with you, do not stay here. This is definitely not a 3-star hotel. I've stayed in 3-star hotels. Believe me when I tell you, this doesn't come close to a 2-star hotel. Maybe 1 star. Maybe. Whoever rated this hotel needs to do a return visit and readjust the rating.

I thought the whole post office museum thing might be quirky and fun, and I liked the look of the big porch online. And frankly, I was looking for cheap.I guess I only skimmed the tripadvisor reviews, I should have read them carefully! No one was there to check us in. There was a phone number to call, but no one picked up. We disturbed a bible study class in what seemed to be an old bar/dining room, and then someone who knew where to look went and found someone. You couldn't adjust the temperature of the A.C. (only turn it on and off) unless you had a tallish person climb up on a chair. The volume on the tv was broken, so we couldn't turn it on or off or adjust volume without getting up. We asked where to get ice and were told to go sneak it from the hotel across the street. Everything inside was old, which could have been cool if it were clean and refurbished. The water smelled funny (old pipes?) The springs on the bed kept popping. The view from the porch is a busy commercial street and a mini golf course. The good thing about this place was it was very near where we were going (Blue Springs State Park. ) Also, no one was wearing masks inside the lobby. I know some people are fine with that, but fair warning for anyone who isn't. It certainly did seem like more than a few of the "guests" lived there.
