The Grand Naniloa is located just outside the downtown Hilo area and close to the airport. The surrounding area is a mixed bag, some lovely gardens and trees, but then also adjacent to an abandoned hotel. The self parking lot, across the street from the property, is a poorly maintained gravel lot with potholes everywhere!
The property is in desperate need of renovation and cleaning. It’s clear the hotel structure and the rooms aren’t well maintained. The room cleanliness was technically fine but not quality you’d hope or expect from a DoubleTree/Hilton property. Everything is showing wear and tear and the sinks and shower didnt really drain well.
I wouldn’t not stay here again nor recommend it to others.

It’s unfortunate the hotel is in such a beautiful location. The outside of the hotel and the surrounding buildings/old hotels are so old and run down. The lobby appeared well-maintained with a small check in area and tiny bar. No one greeted us at valet or in the lobby when we arrived. They couldn’t find our reservation despite giving them both our IDs (it was under our first names somehow). The pool is quite small, no hot tub, and pool towels were nowhere to be found and no pool attendant to ask. I’m surprised the pool is on Resort Pass due to the size and quality. They gave us the wrong room (2 beds instead of 1). Our shower wasn’t draining, so maintenance came up to fix it, but the next morning it was back to not draining. The room hallways need to be better maintained (scuff marks on walls and doors). Self-parking is across the street, which was inconvenient during the rain. We would not stay here again.

I have low expectations of the Doubletree brand. This didn't even meet those.
The outside of the hotel looks like some of the buildings I saw in my recent trips to the former Soviet bloc. The property is unkempt and the rooms are dark. The hallways are narrow.
The internet connection might have been fast 15 years ago. Now it's barely usable.
To add insult to injury, their amenity fee is more atrocious than most in terms of how little value you get.
I'm still trying to understand who the bathtub is designed for - it looks straight into the bedroom with not even frosted glass.
Some fancy romantic hotels have designs like this but more modest. This hotel? It doesn't come close to the type of hotel where someone might want it.
