CRH - Hale Kamaole

We booked a 10 day stay from July 21-30, 2025 in Unit 265. I’d like to start off by saying my family has stayed here a handful of times in various units over the last 20 years and each time has been a great stay. Unfortunately, this stay was a very different experience. On July 21st, we walked into Unit 265 and found a condo that was unkept, dirty, and in need of attention. There was a thick layer of dust on various items including the bedroom and living room lamps, shelves throughout, and decorative pieces in all the rooms. The fan in the living room wouldn’t turn on the first night, and the light was stuck on. If you’ve stayed in Maui in July without A/C, you know how important air flow is and how hot a light can make the room. Our kids had to sleep in our bed, despite there being a loft, because the twin mattresses in the loft beds had yellow stains and due to the light remaining on in the living room, the couch was not an option either. In addition to a living room inconvenience, the shower upstairs wouldn’t turn on. The tub part worked, but the shower didn’t have water coming from the top. I would have given the kids a bath, but the bathtub was too dirty. The closet upstairs was unusable because it was used for storage of a broken mirror, additional lamps, and dusty bedding. The walls themselves were dirty and in addition to the uncleanliness, there were ants all over, including in the beds. We contacted the office upon our arrival on July 21 about the overall cleanliness and the ant situation but since check-in is at 4pm and the office closes at 5pm, they said they ran out of ant traps, and they would discuss it with the property manager the next day and would contact us. On July 22 after many phone calls back and forth, they finally offered for the cleaning crew to come the next day (July 23), to address our areas of concern and replace the loft twin mattresses. The cleaning fee and first night was also refunded. We would have preferred to switch units, but they said that wasn’t possible. The cleaning job helped, but was still sub-par. The ants didn’t go away, and we had to deal with them the whole trip. We had to keep all food items bagged, and in the fridge. The ants in the bathroom were absolutely disgusting since they were crawling on my toothbrush. Unit 265 is unclean, outdated, and seems like the owner and property management doesn’t keep up with repairs or renovations the condo desperately needs. Management said they did a walkthrough the morning before we arrived, so either they didn’t, or they just don’t care about cleanliness because the issues we experienced were obvious and clearly ignored if they weren’t seen. I’m sad to say, but I won’t be returning or recommending the Hale Kamaole to friends and family. I’ll be staying elsewhere. Pictures attached are upon arrival.

Average condo, good pool, close to Kam 3. It’s a pretty good location in Kihei, close to Wailea, beaches, restaurants and Safeway. Nice walk to Wailea and to trail along the beach. Some have good views of the ocean for sunsets. Nothing special, but comfortable for a long stay with family

The complex is perfectly located and generally very nice. It is, however, a rudderless ship. For a large complex with 188 units, someone needs to be able to solve issues of the guests, and currently, no one does. If you have an issue with the pool, noise, plumbing, rowdy behavior, etc., there is no where to go. The people in the office are lovely, but all they can do is notify the people who are supposed to take care of things. Those people seem to rarely show up. Scott has an office on site, but he only handles issues with the Hale Kamaole Co-op units, and even getting him to do something about broken beds or a lack of towels, pots and pans, etc., is far from satisfactory. Clayton, who lives on the property, used to be the complex “manager” (?) but now has some nebulous job description that doesn’t include solving problems. There is an overnight security service, and they are helpful, but there are several hours between the office closing and security being on duty, so you are completely helpless during that time. On the other hand, the guys who clean and service the barbecues are on time every morning, pleasant and friendly, and do a great job preparing the grills for another night of heavy use. How can any rental property lack even a basic structure? It’s a mystery. With multiple rental agencies and owners renting units, there is no consistency or even minimum standards. Some units are gorgeous and thoughtfully equipped, and some are dumps that haven’t been updated in 30 years. There is no price consistency either, so you may pay top price for a dump or luck out and get a spectacular unit for less money. Look carefully at the photos, and read the reviews. Location alone will only carry this place so far. They need some organization, employees who actually interact with guests, and minimum standards from owners who rent their units.
